Champion of Champions
Another busy weekend for District bowlers. Firstly the Champion Of Champions pairs was conducted at the Temora Ex- Services Club on Saturday 20th. With only 3 clubs entering their Club pairs; these being Barmedman, Temora B & R and Temora Ex-Services.
The first game semi-final witnessed the Barmedman pair of Keith Maitland and Jamie Jones against Rick Potter and Nathan Stimson from Temora B & R Club. Rick and Nathan were successful running out winners. By all reports received the game was a close contest. The final was played between Temora Ex-Services pair of Greg Gibson and Barry Dunn against the Temora Ex-Services pair. This was again another closely contested affair with Greg Gibson and running out winners 20-15 against Ricky Potter and Nathan.Congratulations to the Temora Ex-Services pair and well bowled to all the contestants.
Ariah Park President’s Day
The other event held over the weekend was the Ariah Park President’s Day. This event was well attended with 14 triples sides competing. It was pleasing to see such a turnout of District Clubs supporting this event. Weethalle sent an apology and completely understandable as it was their Local Show Day. A great day of bowling and friendship was enjoyed by all in attendance.
At the end of play the honours were conducted with the District President’s rink successful with a total of 38 points. In hot pursuit was the west Wyalong S& C Sports Club with 36 points and closely followed by the Ungarie trio on 35 points on third. A great day was had by all.
Temora B & R Invitation Triples
This weekend the Temora B & R are holding their Annual 2 bowl Invitation Triples. This event is usually well attended by our District and other bowlers from outside the District.
Looking forward to September, yes it’s just around the corner. Bowlers please note:
Champion of Champion singles are scheduled for play on 2nd and 3rd of September. Please forward names of your Champions to the District Secretary by the 26th of August so avenue can be decided.
Ariah Park Veteran’s Day is scheduled for Thursday 7th September.
Following this event Lake Cargelligo Bowling Club are holding a Mixed 3 bowls Pairs Tournament on the 9th and 10th of September. Three games of 21 ends are scheduled on the weekend, with 2 games to be played on Saturday with a 9.30 am start and one game on Sunday with a 9.30 am start also.
This event is a Memorial Tournament for John and Margaret Hill.
District Fixtures Meeting
On the weekend of 16th of September the District Fixtures Meeting is scheduled for the 16th to commence at 10.30 am. This is a very important meeting for arranging the District Calendar for the 2018 year. It will be important to keep in mind when planning this calendar, the commonwealth Games that are being held on the Gold Coast from April 4th to the 15th, 2018.This will have some bearing on State events as well as our Zone 8 and Southern Slopes District events. More details should be available shortly.
Once again, I will mention that the Southern Slopes Calendar is very busy combined with Zone events as well at the present time there are no free weekends allowing for extreme weather events such as extreme heat and wet weather causing cancellations of events. Combined with Pennants and 2 scheduled events per club and District Championships it leaves little to no room for any alterations to our schedule.
