That this complete education should be the goal of our student life, for example, found expression in the will of the late Mr. However, the relationship of the medical student to the University in general is a matter for legitimate consideration. During the second and third terms, a number of the fifth-year men went to the Alfred Hospital on Saturday mornings, Dr.

In the corresponding number of the SPECULUM last year, a strongly worded article appeared which pointed out the injustice of blocking certain students from the second examination. The place chosen for the experiment was that part of the Australian Alps near Porepunkah, the Buffalo Mountains. From the top of the Horn, the highest peak of the Buffalo, one has Mt.

It's also good to see the sheer joy of the bug hunter when he discovers a new specimen. Improvement was visible every day; at the end of the week the natives recognized the scarce. I am not going to give you a history of science and medicine.

Next, we can briefly address the position of the doctor, his right to practice and his respect. I do not propose to discuss in detail the conduct of the Asclepieia, or the temples of Esculapius. This practice of carrying numerous pupils to the homes of patients continued for centuries.

It was the best they could do under the circumstances, and it should not be assumed that they were unaware of the obvious flaw in the method. Rufus of Ephesus, writing in the days of Emperor Hadrian, expressly complains about it. Other toasts honored in the course of the evening were: the visitors, introduced by Mr.

The musical part of the program began with the Medical National Anthem, updated by Mr. The 4th and 5th Years were well represented; so were the nursing staff of the M.H. Ample justice was done to the excellent dinner provided, music and speeches filled the rest of the evening.

They are chiefly confined to the head, and the bones of the cranial vault are tender to pressure.

He has had hemorrhoids for the past six years and sometimes they bleed profusely. She was given Thyroid Extract Tabloids (gr. v. t.d.s.) and seemed to work well for her, but after about three months of use they began to give her severe epigastric pain and were discontinued. On November 15, the pills were discontinued, Phenazonum gr. was added to the Hst.

The patient's condition has somewhat improved since admission, especially the pain in the limbs is less severe. Several times she has gotten up and walked around the ward with the help of beds, etc., but she feels weak and dizzy. Tregear private at Beulah, and one of the honorees at the local hospital in lieu of the late Dr.

In future oral discussions, each student will have a second; two examiners against one student does not conform to the rules of true sport. Doctor (with his ears on the patient's chest): "There is an unusual swelling in the region of the heart, sir, which needs to be reduced immediately." Patient (concerned): "This 'swelling' is my pocketbook, Doctor. The University finished third at the end of the season, losing the services of Dr.

Given the Shop team's play throughout the season, great weakness was noted in the forwards, but the backmen maintained the high level of defense of previous years' teams. The lack of practice on the part of the players was evident in every match played. May we bring to the attention of our readers some reasons for joining the lacrosse team.

The game is for men of lighter build, perhaps, than the average footballer, though not necessarily. There is no college football club, and some form of exercise is necessary for every student who wants to be healthy and sane; lacrosse being the winter sport for students, so you should join the University Lacrosse Club. Crosses are given to those who wish to test the game before finally joining the Club.

Those who watch practices may note that they differ from games, just as kicking a football does from playing the game. Looking at the results of the year's praise matches, we must conclude that although our fours did well, they should have done better. Shop Third Four started well but ended well, with the number of games won and lost equal in number.

It is interesting to note that of the 12 men involved in these matches, 8 were doctors, which shows that we have more than our own in Tennis as elsewhere.

Mayer, Meltzer & Jackson,

233 LONSDALE STREET

A few months before his death, when ill health compelled him to give up general practice, he engaged in a consulting practice in Collins-st., where his advice and extensive experience were much sought after. He was educated in Ireland and graduated as Doctor of Medicine from Trinity College, Dublin University in 1881; obtaining F.R.C.S., Ireland, same year. ad eundem) at the University of Melbourne, and was an examiner in anatomy for three years. Throughout the district where his extensive practice was carried on, his name was almost a household word, and the recent publication of the notes of moo obstetric cases, with the phenomenal record of only one death, is in itself sufficient evidence that his success was deserved. and well deserved.

Broad-minded, generous to a fault, conscientious, a careful and diligent physician, the faithful and reliable friend of many, he was the beautiful ideal of all that a family physician should be. A Bachelor of Arts of the University of Dublin, widely read and highly cultured, he was fitted to take a prominent part in the affairs of the world; and in Dr. Walsh, the people of Kew have lost a citizen whose life was well spent, and who leaves the world better than he found it by having lived in it.

His memory is venerated, and he will long live in many acts of kindness and public benefit among the people of the district who knew and honored him for so many years. Palmer, at one time president of the Ballarat branch of the B.M.A., was stationed at the Ararat Hospital, and after holding the position for some years resigned to enter into private practice at Ararat. He soon built up an extensive practice, never sparing in the interest of his patients.

Ritchie were victims of tubercular dysentery and all died in the prime of life, respected and their untimely deaths deeply regretted by all who knew them.
