GENERAL INFORMATION

It was formerly known as the Technical Teachers' College and was then administered by the Teacher Training Branch of the Education Department of Victoria. As technical schools were established by the State after the Education Act of 1910, there was a demand for more teachers of mathematics, science, engineering, art, trades, etc. Technical Teacher Training Centre, established in the previous year by the Education Department in rooms at the Melbourne Technical College (now R.M.I.T.).

THE COLLEGE

In September 1957 the College moved to Toorak and began a separate existence in buildings formerly occupied by Toorak (Primary) Teachers' College. Role of the College The College currently offers courses in professional College education and training to men and women who desire it. Curriculum Studies and Foundation Studies comprise members of staff who have teaching responsibilities in the various areas of the College Curriculum.

ADMISSION AND ENROLMENT

Specific Teaching Method Requirements

The Diploma of Librarianship (2 or 3 years after Form VI), or the Registration Certificate of the Library Association of Australia, or an approved equivalent together with approved industrial experience. Applications for admission to the College must be made on the appropriate form available at the Office of the Academic Registrar, Room 313, (3rd Floor.). On such occasions the approval of the College must be obtained using the appropriate form.

Note paper, folders of various shapes and sizes, ballpoint pens, etc. can be purchased at the college office. Incoming messages are only delivered to students in urgent cases; otherwise they will be placed on a clipboard in the college office. This service is especially useful for scholarship holders who pick up their checks at the College every two weeks.

FACILITIES

Telephones for students are located in the lobby by the main entrance. Students are allowed to park their cars on the college grounds, but only in places that are specifically marked with notices. There is a $1.00 fee that will be refunded when the key is returned at the end of the year.

COURSE SCHEDULES

Diploma of Diploma in Education (Dip.Ed.) currently awarded in accordance with Education Regulation XXXIII(U) Regulations of the Ministry of Education. In this regulation, unless it is inconsistent with the context or ii) "four-year degree" means a degree awarded by a college of higher education or other approved institution on completion of a four-year course commencing after at least five years of post-secondary education;. iii) "course" means a course approved for a Diploma in Education. Diploma of Education course of study is an approved course prescribed by the relevant institution, provided that it comprises one year of full-time study and that it includes—. a) approved studies and programs on the basics, principles, methods and practices of education;

Certificate This award is recommended for those who hold the Certificate of Competence from the Apprenticeship Commission of Victoria, or approved equivalent, along with five years of approved post-apprenticeship experience. The trained vocational instructor certificate is issued to an applicant who—awarded to an applicant who—. i) has received approved trade or craft training at a technical school or other recognized institution;. ii) has at least five years of recognized trading experience;. iii) has successfully completed an approved course in the Principles of Teaching and the Practice of Teaching from a teacher training institution approved by the Governor in Council. To have completed "an approved trade or craft course in a technical school or other approved institution" as required by Regulation XXXIII(P), an applicant should normally be qualified for the Certificate of Competency of the.

In this regulation, unless it is incompatible with the context or the subject-subject-. ii) "form VI" means the form in a state high school or a state technical school or other approved educational institution who takes the sixth year of the course of study at a state high school or a state technical school or a course of study which, in the opinion of the director-general, corresponds to the sixth year in a state high school or a state technical school. The trained technician instructor certificate shall be granted to a candidate who—. i) has completed an approved certificate course at a technical school or other approved educational institution and has passed mathematics and either science or applied science at Form VI standard if such subjects are not already included in the approved certificate course. ii) has had approved industrial experience. iii) has successfully completed an approved course of teaching at an institution approved by the Governor in Council for the Training of Teachers. Certificate This award is generally recommended to those who, although not fully meeting the requirements for the award of the T.T.T.C., have qualifications equivalent to at least two years of approved full-time academic study.

In this regulation, unless inconsistent with the context of the subject matter, "approved" means approved by the Director. A certificate of qualified secondary school teacher shall be awarded to a candidate who—. i) has qualified for matriculation at a Victorian university or holds a qualification certified as equivalent or higher. ii) has successfully completed the course prescribed in Article 3 of these regulations at an approved teacher training college. a) The subjects and requirements of the course mentioned in paragraph (ii) clause 2 of these regulations are divided into two groups (Group A and Group B) and to successfully complete the course candidates must successfully complete six subjects that have been previously approved. in group A and for all subjects and requirements in group B. b) The subject groups mentioned in subsection (a) of this article are:—. approved courses at the post-baccalaureate level) Group B. i) approved studies on the foundations, principles, methods and practices of education and basic teaching skills programs;. ii) approved school experience under the supervision of approved teachers. Training This statement certifies that the student has successfully completed an "approved teacher training course": provided by a college under the direction of the Ministry of Education to those whose qualifications do not fully meet the conditions laid down for the award of any of the above certificates.

Except in the cases of the Diploma in Education and the Certificate of Qualified Secondary Teacher, any teacher who has completed a teacher training course for any of the other certificates mentioned above and who subsequently obtains the required qualifications and industrial or commercial experience may apply to the Colleges for the award of the appropriate certificates.

Continuing Comparisons

The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the history of Western education. Student papers will be presented on profiles of educational philosophers and reformers appropriate to each of the areas to be studied. A consideration of what it is to be creative, the place of emotions in creativity and the role of the teacher in the education of emotions.

The targets are selected from the following group. a) Consider the sociological theory and implications of the concept of "community education". Develop a sociological perspective and apply this perspective to an analysis of the people, processes and social contexts involved in education. To study the development of a social person through an analysis of the processes and main agencies of.

Activities focused on improvisation will focus on increased concentration, better vocal control, the development of expressive movement and the involvement of the intellect and imagination. Questions related to contemporary educational dilemmas will be selected, e.g. the rights of minority groups, the nature of power in modern society, the role of the artist, etc. Emphasis will be placed on the role of fantasy and its interaction with language in the overall development of the self.

The roles of director, actor, stage designer and designer will be considered. The course will deal with the implementation and dissemination of spoken and written English skills developed in English during the first year of the course. Further detailed information should be obtained from the relevant departments of the Education Department if required.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

Pay will normally be deducted for any absence on account of illness not covered by the above conditions

Department to permanent members of the Education Service is contained in the Education Gazette for 28 May 1975, pages 300-304. Application for such leave must be made in advance to the Education Department stating dates and with details of the circumstances necessitating the absence. Studentship holders must submit it to the Vice-Chancellor of the College; other students to their principal.

Copies of the Educational Gazette are available in schools, in the library and in the common room of the College. Temporary teachers who have the qualifications set out in Regulation 9 of the Teaching Service (Teachers' Tribunal) Regulations may apply for appointment to permanent posts in the Technical Schools Division. The qualifications required for appointment to permanent positions in the Division of Secondary Schools are set out in Regulation 8.). They will be informed of the date and time of this examination as soon as they have been set by the School Medical Service.

As soon as you have completed all the requirements for the award of a trained teacher's certificate (see pages 24-26), you should therefore immediately apply to the college for the award of the certificate, so that in the following year you will be paid the relevant salary. The qualifications required for promotion in the department for technical schools are laid down in rule 9 of the regulations for the teaching service (teachers' board). Post-retirement Every teacher, upon classification as a permanent member of the Teaching Service and subject to medical fitness, becomes a mandatory contributor to the Pension Fund.
