Supervisor Quick Guide to Progress Reports

1. Once you have received email notification of a progress report to review from the student, log into RIMS. The link is http://rims.massey.ac.nz. Use your staff id and Massey password to log in.

2. Under GRS, select Progress Reviews

3. Select the student from the list. The default setting is “For Assessment Review”. If you cannot see the student you are looking for, select All Progress Reviews.

4. On the left hand navigation pane, select the sections you wish to read. To review it all, use the green arrows top right or bottom right to move between each page.

(2)

5. When you have finished reviewing the student’s comments, go to Part B – Primary

Supervisor Report. Add your comments. You will be asked to elaborate for any response 3 (Neutral) or lower.

6. Progress to the Sign-off page. Add your general comments. You may be asked to supply additional comments depending on your responses.

7. For the next section, you can decide on how many co-supervisors you nominate to

comment, but you must select at least one. The table below lists the supervisors held in the system. It is not for selecting. To do this you need to go to Notify Co-supervisor and select

those you choose.

8. You need to click on the Action Tab and select Notify Co-Supervisor to make the selection.

9. In the next screen tick the active Co-supervisors and the Application pdf.

If a co-supervisor is not on the list, type their surname in and click on the search function to add them.

in and add their comments, the pdf is there to make their deliberations easier, but they should not use it write on. They will be notified in an email to log in and add their comments on the e-form, along with instructions on how to complete. In the case of external co-supervisor they will be asked to email their comments to you and you will paste them into the box on the supervisor sign off page

11. You will see a confirmation message at the top of the screen:

12.

You will receive an email notification each time a co-supervisor adds comments and you must decide at what point you will close this stage and move it onto the HoU. In some cases you might be satisfied with one set of comments. Equally you might decide to get

comments from more than one or indeed all. You must get at least one set of comments before you move it on.

13. External co-supervisors will email you their comments once they have read the PDF. You then need to tick the box that asks if you want to add co-supervisor comments and then a box will appear which you can paste comments into

Note: Once you have moved it on to the HoU, any co-supervisor who hasn’t commented will not be able to – the form becomes read only for them and you.

14. At this point, you can logoff and wait for the co-supervisor to respond. An email will be sent to all the co-supervisors selected, and they can add comments.

Please remember you do need to log back on and send on to HoU otherwise the report will stay with you.

(5)

15. Log back in and find the students report following the instructions 1-3 on the first page of this guide. Use the left hand navigation pane to review the Co -Supervisor Comments.

When you are comfortable with the co-supervisors opportunity to comment, you complete yours and forward to the HoU.

16. Tick the box “I can confirm I have reviewed this report and am satisfied that there is sufficient feedback from co-supervisors”

17. Go to the Action Tab and select Submit PR to HoU.
