Masters members are awesome

In February 2012 at the annual general meeting of Masters Swimming WA several members who have worked for the organization as key volunteers over many years were presented with Service Awards for their outstanding contributions to our sport.

This new initiative to recognize and reward the Masters volunteers who have given their time and expertise was established in 2010, following on from the National Masters Swimming Australia concept.

State Life Members Kay Cox and Jack Busch presented 10 year Excellence and 5 year Merit awards to twenty four current members of MSWA Clubs. These included several members who worked in Executive Board roles or major Technical Officiating positions during the 1980’s and 1990’s, namely Toni Morris (Inglewood/Osborne Park), Glen Boorn (Inglewood), Maxine Fitzpatrick (Melville/Fremantle) and Richard Johnson (Claremont).

More recent hard workers who were also recognized for their efforts mainly during the 2000’s included Fred van Andel (Inglewood), Hilary Arber (Belmont), Lynne Duncan (Maida Vale), Robert Birch (Belmont), Jane Laws (Carine) and Rhonda Maloney (Melville).

Many of those presented with awards are however current State volunteers who are still contributing to the sport either as a State Board member, State Officer or Technical Official. Hopefully many of them will go onto receive 10 year Excellence awards in the years to come as long as they don’t burn out!

Masters Swimming Clubs are more fun than swimming on your own!
