5. PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I would like to start off by apologizing to any of the clubs that we have not yet visited as it has been a very busy time at Club and Zone 10 level over the past two months with Pennants, Championships and other bowls issues that have risen. If we have not seen you and you would like us to come and visit you, please come and see myself or Norm after the meeting and we will try and book in a time.

Thank you to the 23 clubs that have replied in regards to the fixed fee. The majority of clubs agreeing to the fixed fee but a few clubs opting not to agree to the fix fee. Bowls NSW has made it clear that any club that does not pay the fix fee will be disaffiliated with Bowls NSW. The Zone 10 Executive will try and help out any club that would like guidance and assistance moving forward.

I’m very happy to announce that the first Zone 10 Presentation night is coming along very well. I can now confirm that former Australian Champion Bowler Ian Schuback will be our MC for the event. We have also booked entertainment with Comedian Mick Meredith who is a regular on the channel 9 Footy Show and is currently doing line cruisers around the world. We have had some great support from Wentworthville Leagues which has enabled us to keep the price down. (Secretary Norm Muir will update us in his report). All clubs we have visited have committed to the Presentation Night &

(2)

Secretary Norm Muir will be sending out and email to all clubs asking for their commitment for this night. We anticipate with all 26 clubs and other bowling members we will attract a crowd of 300 plus.

I would ask that all clubs please make sure we have your right contact details as we are finding that a lot of the correspondence being sent out is not being responded to. We believe the best form of communication is by email & the Zone 10 website so please update your contact details before you go tonight if they are wrong.

As well as calling for nominations for a Coaching & Umpires course the executive is also looking at running its own coaching courses for all members of Zone 10 clubs to attend. We are looking at getting the top coaches in Zone 10 involved and holding once every two months so watch this space.

I would like to thank Norm & Tim for their input on booking the accommodation for the State Finals and also the Open Inter-Zone at Foster. With the delay of the Zone 10 Pennant Finals Clubs would have no chance of getting reasonable accommodation on such short notice

Finally, I would like to congratulate all Zone 10 Junior bowlers that recently competed in the 2016 Zone 10 Junior Championships. Thank you to Bill Sutcliff & Ted Lean for the great job they done and also Rydalmere for the use of the Club & greens.

Kind regards Brett Hughes Zone 10 President

6. SECRETARY’S REPORT

Pennants – Congratulations to all teams who competed strongly right up to the last round. A review of Chris Wallace’s “Race to the Finals” showed just how close most teams were throughout the year.

Unfortunately, the weather god intervened on the big day so all post sectional finals were delayed and we now wait to see which teams represent Zone 10 at State Finals. I would like to acknowledge the work done by our match committee in managing our zone competition in 2016. The technology implemented by Tim and his team this year was a real enhancement and whilst challenged by some, was ultimately endorsed and praised by BowlsNSW Match Committee as an initiative that produced an efficient and accurate method of issuing match cards and recording of results. No clubs were disadvantaged by the method of drawing opponents and the on-line scoring system ensured accurate and timely updates to results tables.

State Finals Accommodation – I’ve previously written confirming that accommodation has been pre-booked for Zone 10 teams in Grade 3, 4, 6 & 7 that will compete in State Finals. The details are;

Communication - I’m still doubtful that we have all the right contact information for Clubs and Delegates. I’ve previously asked all clubs to go onto the Zone 10 website to check that we have your club information up to date so I will ask once again if you can double check your club record and let me know if I have incorrect information. You will need to check on 2 Tabs viz; Resources (Club Directory) and About Us (Club Delegates).

Zone Championships – Expressions of Interest were recently posted seeking clubs interested in hosting the Zone Singles, Pairs, Triples and Champion of Champion Singles & Pairs Championships which would assist us in raising funds to host an annual Presentation event. I would like to thank the following clubs, Greenlees Park, Wenty Leagues, Merrylands and NBC Sports Club for their support of this initiative which has raised $2,000 which will be put toward the Presentation night in November.

Presentation Night – We have booked Wenty Leagues Club to host our inaugural Zone 10 Presentation night on Thursday, 10th of November 2016. We are hoping all clubs in Zone 10 will take a minimum of one (1) table of 10 persons @$50 per head. This will cover a 3 course meal, entertainment, prizes, presentations and most of all, an opportunity for all zone 10 clubs to come together to celebrate the season as a group so we look forward to your club supporting this initiative.

(4)

National Bowls Census 2016 – All clubs by now should have received the invitation from Bowls Australia to complete the 2016 Census survey. I have been asked by BowlsNSW to urge all Club Members to endeavor to complete this survey. Only by collecting valuable information can our governing bodies develop suitable plans to develop and showcase the game within the community.

Can all Delegates please speak with your respective Secretary or Manager to ensure they have received their copy and urge them to complete the survey by 29th July 2016.

Fixed Fee – Following the April Management Meeting attended by Bowls NSW, wherein Greg Helm explained the recent changes following member feedback, we re-issued requests for clubs to reconsider where they stood in relation to the fixed fee model. Of the 26 clubs affiliated with Zone 10, Eighteen (18) clubs have confirmed Yes they will now adopt the revised model and pay the fee calculated by BowlsNSW. Five (5) clubs have said No they will not accept the model and Three (3) clubs have not responded to my requests. The above information (not club names) was presented to ClubsNSW at State Councilors meeting on 27th May. BowlsNSW has advised that the fee model will NOT be revisited now so it will be up to each club to decide if it wants to remain affiliated under the BowlsNSW Constitution. Invoices will be issued around April 2017 and payment or otherwise of the scheduled invoice will determine where clubs stand.

Umpires and Coaches Courses – we have received enquiries from a few clubs keen to get new umpires and coaches accredited. Notices were sent out seeking interest among member clubs and to date, only a few clubs have shown any interest. We will still run the courses for those clubs who have responded but now is the time so if your club has members interested in undertaking these courses can you advise me via email viz; [email protected]

Aloha Bowls – BowlsNSW has committed to the Aloha Barefoot Bowls incentive for 2016 with a slightly modified format but is asking all clubs who have a serious marketing plan and keen about promoting the fun side of Bowls to get involved. Over 800 entrants competed last year across only 36 venues so look out for the promotional material that will come out shortly and if your club is looking to drive awareness of our game, this is one way to do so. More details will follow from BowlsNSW but I’ve attached the BowlsNSW Marketing information flyer now, just to get you thinking;
