The Club’s crest & bulletin name reflect ‘Odin’ (anglo-saxon ‘Woden’), the ancient Nordic God of Wisdom.

Odin had two ravens called Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory) who flew forth every day and returned at night to tell him what they had seen, so contributing to his wisdom.

Last week Things you should know about

no guest speaker it was decided to have an evening of fellowship & planning.

It was reported that the funds raised from the Black Opal parking 2016 have been distributed to Weston Creek Rotary ($980) and the remainder

($2308) to Woden Rotary.

Our Club has commit- ted to home-hosting eight RAIC delegates (equal to 4 homes) for the period 7th May till 14th May. The planning committee has prepared a program that can accommodate all possible political decisions for the Budget sitting period.

Planning for the Rotary fund raising Con- cert on Saturday 30th April (11.30am till 1.30pm is well advanced. The Concert ($20 entry fee) will be held at the Irish Club and ALL Rotarians and their family &

friends are strongly encouraged to attend this key fund raising activity and to sell tickets to others. The majority of the funds raised will go to MyHome (see below)

The exciting Project MyHome (a major development supported by the Woden Rotary Club) is seeking clarification from the ACT Government that they will receive ACT funding and planning approval to develop at their preferred site adjacent to the Curtin Shopping Centre an accommodation centre for approximately 20 people with a mental disability. Several key issues re management control of the site, ability to self-fund ongoing cost etc are still to be resolved. Several groups have indicated that they may donate “profes- sional time” (eg 10 hours per person) to the development once these key plan- ning and legal issues have been resolved with the ACT Government. Several Rotarians raised issues associated with these outstanding matters as well as offering valuable comments re the successful resolution of this development.

The meeting was opened by by President Deb- bie with a toast to Rotary International. As there was Wednesday 20 April: Meeting transferred to Eddie the Eagle movie, Tuggeranong

Sunday 24 April: Five peaks (plus one) Challenge bike ride - All members to assist on the day

Saturday 30 April: Fund-Raising Concert A reminder that our Rotary Club is organising this fund-raising concert for the ‘MyHome in Canberra’.

7-14 May: Rotary Adventure in Citizenship (RAIC). All members are expected to assist as and when possible during that week. Can you billet two year 11 students for one of the most rewarding weeks of their lives?

9 May: Meeting transferred to Canberra Rotary Lunch at Commonwealth Club

Canberra Hospital Foundation

President Debbie recently received a warm letter of thanks from the Canberra Hospital Foundation for our donation of two television sets and special stands to the age care ward to support elderly patients, in particu- lar those suffering with dementia. As indicated in the above photo the presentation was attended by a number of Rotarians from Woden Ro- tary and Canberra Hospital nursing staff. The money had come from the Club’s wishing well in the main lobby of the Canberra Hospital that had been recently emptied by Noel Hart.
