VICTORIAN JUNIOR STATE TEAM SELECTION CRITERIA
as at 11 November 2013
THE OBJECTIVE: The objective of the Selection Criteria is to ensure that the best juniors in Victoria are chosen to represent the State by selecting teams based on performance.
Squash Vic has approved the following criteria for the selection of State Junior Representative Teams. It is the responsibility of Squash Vic Junior Rankings and Selection Committee (the Selectors) to ensure that these criteria are applied. Any appeals against decisions made in the selection of players and/or teams based on these criteria should be directed to Squash Vic.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Players will be considered for selection in representative teams on the basis of their compliance with the following:
1. Residency/Affiliation
The Player must be Victorian born and/or normally a resident of the State of Victoria and a financial member of a Squash Club affiliated with Squash Vic and/or individually affiliated with Squash Vic for a period of at least six (6) months prior to the selection of the Victorian Representative Team.
2. Proof of Age
On demand, the player must provide acceptable proof of age. Acceptable proof includes any of the following:
• Birth Extract • Birth Certificate
• Passport • Learner’s Permit or Drivers License
• Statutory Declaration.
3. State Team Selection
The top 2 players (male & female) in each age group on the Victorian Junior Age rankings, following the FINAL event of the season the State Junior Titles, will be selected as the State representatives and the 3rd placed player will be named as reserve in each age group.
Players must participate in their age group in a sufficient number of events to enable an accurate ranking to be achieved. Squash Vic will decide and publicise each year the events chosen for rankings purposes. See C) over page.
The State Team will be announced following all presentations of the State Junior Titles, when all results are entered into the ranking system and a final list is determined and approved by a Squash Vic Board member or official available on the day.
4. State Team Training
The selected players must participate in at least 2 of the 3 Sunday State Team Training sessions in the period between the team selection and the staging of the Australian Junior Teams Championships. The reserve player for each age group (boys & girls) will also be invited to attend the training, but will not form part of the team unless there is a withdrawal.
A State Team weekend training camp will be arranged at a time following selection of the team and an appropriate venue will be determined. Team members will be expected to attend this training camp if selected.
Absence from training will be taken into consideration by the Selectors in situations such as illness, school commitments, attendance at Australian Institute of Sport activities including tournament tours as recommended, and family commitments. Consideration for these commitments will only be allowed where the player has notified the State Team Manager in advance of any commitment under this provision. This information to then be forwarded on to the Selectors.
5. Behavioural Considerations
Unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated. Players will be expected to comply with the Squash Vic Players Code of Conduct and with competition conditions.
