Context
In today’s postmodern world, criminal phenomenon have taken a different form and magnitude altogether, eventually requiring the current discipline to be refashioned and reassessed from an eclectic approach. In pursuit to these studies, the branch of criminology and forensic science have not only facilitated the reasons of criminality and process of criminal investigation, but has also revamped the scopes of crime prevention through understanding of the criminal profiling and crime commission. The amalgamation of both these branches of study enables a much more refined
understanding of criminal activities, especially violent crimes, drug related and sexual offences, those of which are increasingly prevalent within the Global South.
However, even though multidisciplinary approaches to criminology and forensic science have received widespread popularity and underwent through expansive development across the developed countries, within the Asian region are yet to make the most out of this branch of study.
There has been various factors like lack of funding, research and adequate technology that have prevented the countries from the countries making the most of this branch of knowledge. Against this background, the Department of Criminology, University of Dhaka in collaboration with Ryukoku
University, Japan and National Forensic Sciences University, India have sought to arrange an international e-conference on Criminology and Forensic Science in the Global South that would contribute towards the initiation of concentration in this field of study.

Cultural significance of the conference:
Apart from the academic significance of criminology and forensic science in the study of crime commission and prevention, this event signifies the
centennial celebration of the birth of the University of Dhaka. It was on 1 July 1921, the University of Dhaka formally opened classes to its first batch of
students 100 years ago. Besides, the celebration marking the centennial of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth would have added to the event's festivity and significance.
On the other hand, the golden jubilee of the nation's independence, set to be observed in March 2021, would emerge as another great event to add color to the Dhaka University's centennial celebrations. In considering the three
landmark events of the country, the Department of Criminology would organize its 3rd International e-Conference on Criminology and Forensic Science in the Global South in collaboration with Ryukoku University, Japan and National Forensic Sciences University, India.
