1 Job Title: Assistant Director, Sports & Fitness

Position Purpose

This is a significant, university-wide role. The Assistant Director will create a vision, strategic, and operational plan to promote wide participation and excellence in sports and fitness across BRAC University .

The Assistant Director will work primarily with students but also with faculty and staff and on outreach activities. The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of all aspects of sports and fitness provision.

Organizational Relationships

Department: Office of the Registrar Position Type: Regular

Reporting to: Joint Director, Student Life

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Must return to duty whenever needed (including some weekeds/holidays)

Functional Relationships:

1. Internal Contacts: Students, Faculty, Administrative Staff.

2. External Contacts: External Stakeholders (alumni, employers, vendors, other Universities, schools/colleges and organization)

1.0 Key Accountabilities

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

1.1.1 To develop and implement a vision, strategy, and operational plan for sport and fitness across the university, promoting wide participation and excellence 1.1.2 To manage and deliver high-quality sports and fitness provisions for the university community, including, presently, facilities on the main university campus and the residential campus

1.1.3 To provide physical instruction and organized sports activities 1.1.4 To supervise student sports clubs

1.1.5 Working with the Communications department, to arrange marketing and publicity to promote the use of sport facilities and programmes and to encourage participation in sports and exercise across the university

1.1.6 To work with the university outreach team on sports activities for schools, colleges and external organizations

1.1.7 To ensure the collection, analysis and interpretation of data on sport participation and the use of sports and fitness facilities to enable sound management decisions

1.1.8 To manage budgets assigned to the sports and fitness unit

2 1.1.9 To supervise staff and volunteers within the sports and fitness unit and to

provide for their training and professional development

1.1.10 To ensure compliance with health and safety, fire and building regulations 1.1.11 To develop and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with both

external and internal stakeholders

1.2 General Duties & Responsibilities

1.2.1 Administrative Duties relating to all matters that the membership of a University entails, including cross institutional wide activities.

1.2.2 General Responsibility to undertake any other duties assigned by the line manager or the Registrar.

1.3 Qualifications

 An appropriate higher education qualification in a related discipline and extensive work experience and specialist expertise in a related field

 Minimum 6 years significant experience of the management of sports and fitness provision and physical instruction for all levels of ability in an educational institution

1.4 Knowledge & Skills

 Understanding of good practice in health and safety relating to sports and fitness

 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 Strong leadership and management skills

 Commitment to the encourag ement and facilitation of wide participation in sports and fitness activities across the University

 Commitment to excellence in client service provision and to promoting, supporting and developing processes for continuous improvement

 Willingness to travel and take part in student activities

 Willingness to work some extended hours, including weekends and evenings, when required

1.5 Other Duties

It is acknowledged and agreed that the changing needs of the University may require a role/job/position to change from time to time but such alteration shall not be deemed to be a variation of the Employment Contract/Terms and Conditions of Employment or a breach of the same provided that the substantial nature of the employment remains consistent with the parties’ intentions at the time of the offer of the job and acceptance of the offer.
