ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to establish the normal dimensions of the different segments of the female reproductive tract of White New Zealand rabbit from November 2011 to February 2012 in the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chittagong. The reproductive tracts of 5 female rabbits were collected after dissection then it was cleaned and freed from adhering tissues and measured. Different segments of the female reproductive tracts of White New Zealand rabbit, i.e. vulva, vagina, cervix, uterine body, uterine horns, oviducts and ovaries were measured using Metric rule, thread and hand lens.
The mean lengths of the vulva, vagina, cervix were 6.2 ± .20 mm, 9.4 ± .35 cm and 10.8±.97 mm respectively. The mean lengths of the left and right ovaries were 11.8 ± 0.37 and 12.6 ± 0.4 mm, respectively. The mean lengths of the left and right oviduct were 9.68 ±.0.033 and 9.68 ± .037 cm respectively. The mean lengths of the left and right uterine horn were 7.62 ± .92 cm and 7.8 ± 0.95 cm respectively. The diameters of the vagina, cervix, left and right uterine horn, left and right ovaries were 12 ± 0.45, 8.2 ± 0.49, 13.4 ± 0.4, 12.8 ± 0.58, 0.084 ± 0.009 and 4.36 ± .002 mm respectively.
The average numbers of follicle in left and right ovaries were 12.4 ± 1.20 and 10.6 ± 1.83 respectively. The weight of left ovary was 0.084±0.0.009 gm and that of right ovary it was 0.096 ± 0.002 gm in White New Zealand Rabbit. The mean weight and length in the present study were found higher in right ovaries than those of left ovaries.
