Responding to increasingly fluctuating and diversifying job-market needs, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), opened the Global Studies & Governance (GSG) Program, under the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) in Autumn 2016. Designed to grapple with the multiple problems every administrator faces (whether in the public sector or private, business corporation, non-governmental organization, or government), the Program trains students to formulate structured, long-term solutions (governance). These could be at the local, national, regional, or global level (or across any of them), with skills that can be both sector-specific and in-depth, on the one hand, and portable across a variety of sectors, on the other. Reaffirming the IUB tradition of pace-setting initiatives, the Program is more inter- disciplinary and multidisciplinary than any other modes of knowledge, making it suitable for the increasingly cluttered, congested, and complicated 21st Century policy-making agenda.

Position Purposes:

The immediate GSG need is for a dynamic and progressive Lecturer to join a vibrant Program within a versatile School. Anyone interested must (a) possess a Master’s degree in any field explicitly demonstrating inter-disciplinary and multidisciplinary pedagogy; and (b) carry at least three continuous years of teaching experiences in a reputable university during the last five years. Any research agenda and/or refereed scholarly publication, as well as peer/student evaluations, will strengthen any application.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills:

1. Master’s degree in any Social Science discipline that gives full and focused attention to the interplay of domestic and international dynamics, broadly defined.

2. Three continuous years of undergraduate teaching over the past 5 years.

3. Fluency and dominant teaching experience in the English language.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

1. Capacity to prepare interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary course contents and curricula.

2. Keeping abreast of related concurrent literatures, theoretically, methodologically, and substantively.

3. Capacity to supervise undergraduate theses.

4. Pedagogically relevant technological skills.

5. Attachment to any scholarly community: regular association membership; scholarly conference attendance and presentations; peer review invitations, for example, from scholarly journals, and so forth.

Key Areas and Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning:

*Minimum 18 credits of teaching is required annually.

*Prepare and present high-quality lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and studio sessions at all educational levels.

*Top-quality coordination, grading/assessment, and consultation is part and parcel of the appointment.

*Contribute to student academic counseling and pastoral care of students.

*Supervise Bachelor level research projects and theses.

Research:

*Demonstrate intellectual thirst through active engagement in some research.

*Extend research collaboration outside the university, both domestically and internationally.

*Supervise research projects of undergraduates.

Internal Services:

*Involvement in administrative functions, when assigned, every now and then, especially annual activities like Orientation, Student Advising, Graduation, and Alumni functions.

*Organize and support any other Program activities.

*Help with any editorial/publication activity of the Program.

External Services:

*Peer review conference papers and journal articles.

*Assess theses of students at other universities.

*Participate in other professional functions and promotional efforts.
