We encourage questions regarding qualitative proposals, such as:
- Eligibility requirements - Thematic inquiries
- Qualitative design questions
We’re not able to offer the following today:
- Feedback on proposals that were not accepted for a previous RFP
- Responses that would require reviewing your proposal in detail
FR
- All proposals must address both DFS and WEE - Align the proposal with the specific themes
articulated in our white paper
- Check out our Compendium of External Resources!
Ensure strong match with WEE-DiFine’s
research agenda

FR Ensure your study
design is eligible
- Qualitative studies and measurement studies are the only studies that do not need to be impact evaluations. All other studies should be rigorous impact evaluations.
- Qualitative studies may fall into two broad categories: Extensions to Existing Studies or Formative or Standalone Qualitative Studies - Check out our Technical and Methodological
Resources for Researchers!
Pro-tip: If you are submitting to one of the qualitative funding categories, your study must follow a rigorous qualitative design. Make sure you’re applying the appropriate category.
FR
- WEE-DiFine supports only rigorous qualitative studies.
- Your proposal should clearly articulate your research question and the study design.
- When describing sampling, be as specific as possible. Describe the unit of analysis, how you will sample, and why your chosen sample size is appropriate.

- Many unsuccessful teams to do not clearly articulate how they will analyze the data collected.
- A description of the data analysis plan should not only describe how data will be managed and what software will be used but more
importantly should describe in detail how the team will make meaning out of the data.
Analyzing
Qualitative Data
Pro-tip: A technical reader unfamiliar with your work can help!
FR
- How will your study contribute to the
theoretical understanding of the relationship between DFS and WEE?
- If the study is an extension to an impact
evaluation, how will it help unpack findings not understood through quantitative data analysis alone?
