I am pleased to certify that the Internship Report on the Daily Sangbad prepared by Kh. I also want to thank the authority of the Daily Sangbad for giving me the opportunity to do my internship in their famous organization. The experience and knowledge I gained at the Daily Sangbad helped me understand different elements related to my studies.

Rashedul Islam Ratul, Sports Reporter, Daily Sangbad for their cooperation on my internship and valuable suggestions. Daily Sangbad newspaper is one of the leading Bangla newspapers in Bangladesh which deals with all the above aspects in a very responsible manner. I had a chance to intern there in weekly features and later the reporting desk under the guidance of Salam Jubair Chief Reporter of Daily Sangbad.

The editor of the Daily Sangbad, Khandakar Moniruzzaman, believes that good journalism is the key element in making a country or the world a better place. Therefore, when I got a chance to do my internship at the Daily Sangbad, I accepted it without thinking.

What is Internship and why Internship is important?

Background of the Daily Sangbad

LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge gathering/ learning
  • Tools and technologies Used
  • Visiting places for reporting and photography
  • Special experience

During my internship at The Daily Sangbad, I collected news for their weekly feature and also had to do desk work. Editing and Proofreading – During my internship at Daily Sangbad, I got to know about the basic aspects of copy editing and the huge responsibilities of a newspaper editor. Most of the events or programs held in our country are conducted in our mother tongue.

Taking Photos – Since I am an amateur photographer, during my internship at the Daily Sangbad, I was asked to take photos while reporting or covering issues. My supervisor taught me how to take photos in low light and how to control the ISO and Sutter speed in low light. Every Thursday after the print copy comes out, all articles and photos are uploaded to various social media platforms.

During my internship at Daily Sangbad, I used several tools and technologies to cover news and desk work. I also had to capture pictures for my reports and the Daily Sangbad online archive. The most surprising thing to me about the Daily Sangbad office was the common server they use.

Employees in the office do not need to sit in a shared chair every time, from any desk in the office they can access the shared server and perform their task. However, during my four years of academic learning, I was not involved in any media work or publication. After joining Daily Sangbad as an intern, I was prepared for a special news about upcoming winter season in Bangladesh.

As it was my first task given by the office, I was very excited to perform better. I have visited so many places in Dhaka to gather some information about the coming winter from the experts. Although this is not something special or important, but the feelings of my first article that I had published, I cannot express.

CHAPTER FOUR

EVALUATION OF LEARNING

  • Academic learning and practical work
  • Expectation and outcome
  • Skills developed during my internship
  • Experience and future career

To become a master of a work, one must have experience with both practical work and academic learning. For this reason, we have to wait or sometimes we have to rent equipment to finish our work early. During the academic learning time, we have to do our assignments or reports on some special topics.

We learned how to use 5Ws and 1H for news reporting, how to build news with the 'inverted pyramid structure', the process of editorial writings, ethics and standards of journalism, these are all the same in both academic learning and practical work . As a student of journalism and mass communication and as an intern at one of Bangladesh's oldest newspapers, The Daily Sangbad, I received a lot of support from my academic knowledge. Actually, as an intern, I was interested in reporting and writing in Bangla dailies and especially photography.

For the first time I was appointed to Daily Sangbad weekly magazine to cover their daily events. These reportage and photography works help me understand the work environments and the things I had to do before and after my assignments, especially in terms of preparation and assignments. After two weeks, I was transferred to the reporting section (Desk) of Sangbad daily, but there I learned how to write a report.

During my internship at The Daily Observer, I was initially responsible for covering the day's events for their weekly feature 'Young Observer' and also had to do desk work. During internship, I have to work with various people in field and office, so I connected with new people from different levels and professions, and my network with various professions grew day by day. Those networks will help me get referrals and find new job opportunities in the future.

Through the internship, I gain some knowledge and experience in article writing, editorial writing, and photography, which will help me build a strong resume. We know that it is impossible to get a good position at work without a comprehensive CV. When we have to do our academic assignments, we don't have to think much about time.
