Position Purpose:
The Department of Social Science and Humanities is seeking a lecturer to join a highly motivated team of teaching and research staff.We have particular interest in recruiting people who have teaching and research experience in the various fields of anthropology. This position will require you not only to teach generic courses like introduction to anthropology and theories in anthropology but also other courses that have specific focus such as: anthropology of gender, anthropology of development, applied anthropology etc.
Key Selection Criterion
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
i. A Master’s & Bachelor's Degree in the relevant field from a reputed / recognized University with rankings high globally
ii. A minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 at the Master’s & Bachelor's degree level
iii. No third class at any degree level iv. Proficiency in English and Bangla
v. Age must be less than 35 years at the time of appointment
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
1. Experience of conducting research and publishing output of research work in reputed conferences and journals.
2. Professional affiliations with organizations that are actively involved in applied anthropology.
3. Experience of developing curriculum and designing courses, developing course materials for new and upcoming topics is an advantage
Organizational Context
IUB as a university has a legacy of Liberal Arts education and promotes critical and analytical thinking. The department of Social Sciences and Humanities has an ambitious research plan. Moreover we are committed to our students for an excellent job placement after they have acquired a degree from the department. To attain this, we have adopted our curriculum to the highest standard possible.
Currently the department offers:
• Social Science in Anthropology
• Bachelor of Social Science in Sociology
• Masters of Social Science in Development Studies
Besides the BSS and MDS programs, the department offers two minor programs, in Anthropology and Sociology.
The Department has 9 full time faculty members and an office manager to support our academic and research activities. Current student number of the Department is 70.
Key Result Areas and Responsibilities Teaching and Learning
• Minimum 36 credits / years teaching load is required for this post
• Prepare, organize and deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, demonstrations, workshops and seminar sessions for undergraduate students
• Perform high-quality subject coordination, marketing and assessment, and consultation
• Contribute to student academic counseling and pastoral care of students
• Supervise senior projects of undergraduate students Research
• Conduct high-quality and high-impact research by joining active research teams at the SSH department
• Explore new research areas and obtain external both internal research funds
• Publish papers in high-quality, high-impact peer-reviewed conferences and journals
• Provide co-supervision to senior project and Thesis students
• Contribute to the preparation of research proposals to external bodies (HEQEP)
• Establish and maintain productive research collaborations with local, regional and global academic institutes
Internal Services
• Undertake a range of administrative functions assigned by the department such as:
orientation program, Student Advising, Graduation program, Alumni activity
• Participating in the thesis defense of undergraduate students
• Help with a list of diverse administrative activities as required by the department.
External Services
• Review papers for conferences and journals if required
• Assess theses completed by students at other institutions if required
• Participate in the professional aspects of the discipline of anthropology including applied sectors such as NGOs and other consultancy activities as appropriate
