The information contained in this newsletter is intended to provide guidance to those pursuing undergraduate studies in Business Administration. No responsibility shall be borne by the Department of Business Administration and/or Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology if any inconvenience or expense is incurred due to the information in this newsletter. Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST) consists of four faculties and six undergraduate programs which offer quality degrees to students.

Department of Business Administration (DBA) is one of the most flourishing and promising departments of the university offering Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. It aims to provide modern and better business education, preparing students and well-trained business professionals to meet the needs of national and international business. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a dynamic course that undoubtedly inspires students to innovation and development.

Students will develop their ability to understand the necessary techniques for dealing with the economic, social and technological environment of the business organizations, especially quantitative techniques and communication skills. Some of the information in this calendar may be changed from time to time.

Types of Courses

The Grading System

The number of quizzes of a course will be n+1, where n is the number of credits of the course. The scheme of continuous assessment that a particular teacher wishes to follow for a course will be announced on the first day of classes. To be eligible to appear in the examination centre, a candidate must attend not less than 60% of the lectures on an average.

The Controller of Examination will only issue admit cards to the eligible candidates as per rules and send them to the concerned Department/Faculty and the Head will distribute to the candidates.

COURSE TITLE AND CURRICULUM

A broad awareness and understanding of the principles, concepts, theories and techniques of modern management in a modern environment is very important for an effective business manager and executive staff. The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with classical neoclassical concepts and scientific methods of management. The classical theory of production, income and employment - a simple graphical and analytical presentation of the theory.

Simple concept of consumption and savings functions - Marginal propensity to consume - Derivation of the multiplier. Understanding the course will help you develop the required skills in using quantitative tools and techniques in analyzing the business situation and making appropriate decisions for the organizations. Life insurance, marine and fire insurance and various other types of emerging insurance and their organization and management will be the main focus of the course.

Introduction: Basic economic problems of Bangladesh – Main features of Bangladesh economy – Basic economic problems of Bangladesh, Solution of the economic problems, causes of low per capita income and low standard of living in Bangladesh. Students will study the basic accounting system and will be shown how the different accounting alternatives for recording financial transactions have an impact on the usefulness of the information provided for decision making. Demand and supply for money: Supply of money- Demand for money- Equality of the demand for the supply of money.

This course offers a global perspective and helps build a solid foundation and understanding of the factors influencing the global market and shipping management mechanisms. Export Processing Zones in Bangladesh: Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) – Reason for setting up EPZ in Bangladesh – Functioning of EPZ in Bangladesh. Completion of this course would enable students to know the basic requirements of an information system and its use in management decision-making, including ethical and social issues of an information system.

Applications of the career management model: Types of career search, techniques for effective self-exploration, integrated career planning system, organization-sponsored self-exploration programs, informal self-exploration. Training Needs & Priorities: This lecture will discuss the procedure of determining the training needs and priorities of existing employees with different training methods. Management Development Program Methods: This lecture will discuss various methods of management and development programs and evaluating the effectiveness of the training program.

Employee Appraisal: This lecture will consist of the process of evaluating employee performance and the factors that can distort the appraisal. Information System: An Accountant's Perspective – The information environment, the AIS framework and the various subsystems. Overview of Sales, Purchases, Revenue and Expense Cycles: Overview of Manual Revenue System and CBAS Study.

The participants of this course will benefit from completing this course as they will learn more about different aspects of service product, price, promotion and location decision of services of different aspects.

Business Promotion Institution: Support Services of Government Institutions – Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Trade Associations – Dhaka Stock Exchange. Social Stratification and Social Class: Definition and Types of Stratification-Theories of Social Stratification- Definition of Social Class-Nature and Complexity of Social Class. Introduction to the study of computers, History and development of computers, generation of computers, types of computers, impact of computers on society.

Identify and explain the major events in the history of Bangladesh from the partition of Bengal to the establishment of Bangladesh as a sovereign state in 1971. Communication process - Essential elements, One-way vs two-way communication, Different models of communication process. It contains the law of contract, laws relating to partnership, sale of goods and carriage of goods, bankruptcy and general principles of company law relating to formation, management and winding up.

Issues of the international economy: the Bretton Woods system – the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – the World Bank (WB) – World Trade Organization (WTC). The course helps in understanding how the individuals are assessed on different types of income. Principles of Public Finance - Objectives of Taxation - Types of Taxes in Bangladesh - Incidence - Burden Shifting.

Career Management Model: Overview of the Career Management Model, Theory and Research on the Career Management Process, Career Management as a Continuous Process, Indicators of Effective Career Management. Introduction to entrepreneurship: Meaning of entrepreneurship, entrepreneur and entrepreneurship-historical background of the concept of entrepreneurship-entrepreneurial process-causes of interest in entrepreneurship, climate for entrepreneurship-creating entrepreneurship-organization of entrepreneurship-entrepreneurship urs-entrepreneurial background and characteristics- common qualities of an entrepreneur-role of entrepreneurs in developing countries like Bangladesh-entrepreneurial career and education-ethics and social responsibility of entrepreneurs-need for the study of entrepreneurship-methods of assessing the qualities of self-entrepreneurship-Theories of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurship: theories socio-psychological and cultural theories, theories and other models of entrepreneurship.
