Relay: A relay is an electromagnetic switch that is operated using a fairly small, electrically powered modern that can cause a miles of electrically powered modern. The heart of a relay is an electromagnet (a coil of wire that becomes a temporary magnet as energy flows through it). You can think of a relay as a kind of electrically powered lever: turn it on with a small present and it turns on any other system ("lever") with a much larger contemporary.
