MOTTO AND DEDICATION

In the Name of Allah

Allah is the one and only

Most surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the

alternation of the night and the day there are signs for men who

understand. Those who remember Allah standing and sitting and

lying on their sides and reflect on the creation of the heavens and

the earth: Our Lord! Thou hast not created this vain! Glory be to

thee save us then from the chastisement of the fire

(Quran 3:190-191)

Keyakinan adalah satu kekuatan dahsyat yang dimiliki manusia. Dia mampu mematahkan dan menggapai segala sesuatu yang diinginkannya.

Bahkan dengan keyakinan, seseorang bisa membuat dirinya ‘ada’.

Speech is a message presented to audience through words, sound, and action that contains ideas and feelings selected and organized by the speaker but understood and interpreted by each individual member of the audience. speaking is a building process, wherein students gradually acquire skill in speech research, organization and delivery. It means, public speaking is one of the important things in communication because it will develop ability to clearly express the idea and thoughts in front of other people.

The importance of public speaking according to Vanderber and Katleen (2003) is: first, public speaking skill empowers the ability to communicate complex ideas and information in a way that all members of the audience can understand; second, public speaking empowers ability to influence the attitudes and behavior of other people; and third, public speaking empowers ability to achieve career goals and to participate in democratic process.

From the statement above, good public speaking skill are empowering, putting in a better position to advocate for interest and to control what happens to us. When students are motivated to speak in public, it means that they have bravery to deliver their speaking. But most of students were nervous when having presentation or speaking in front of people. Damayanti (2004) in her thesis “A

study on students’ problems in learning speaking at SMA I Kejayaan Pasuruan

mentioned that the problems faced by students are 39% in grammar, 36% in vocabulary, 13% in presentation, and the last 12% in choosing topic for presentation.
