Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate in Children : Description and the

Treatments

Abstract

Cleft lip is an abnormality shaped in cleft on upper lip suffered by a child since he or she was born. When it is located at palate, it is called cleft palate. The cause of this these abnormalities are the failure of palatal fusion in fetal time due to genetic or environmental factors. Treatment of these abnormalities involves a team including dentist, dental surgery specialist, plastic surgery specialist, and pedodontist. The appropriate time to conduct surgery is very various and depends on type and severity of the cleft.

Bibir sumbing (cleft lip) adalah kelainan berupa celah pada bibir atas yang didapatkan

seseorang sejak lahir. Bila celah berada pada bagian langit-langit rongga mulut (palate), maka kelainan ini disebut cleft palate. Pada cleft palate, celah akan menghubungkan langit-langit rongga mulut dengan rongga hidung

Ada tiga jenis kelainan cleft, yaitu:

• Cleft lip tanpa disertai cleft palate

• Cleft palate tanpa disertai cleft lip

• Cleft lip disertai dengan cleft palate
