PARENTING STYLES Introduction
Parenting starts before birth. Ages 2-6 yrs
These are known as the play years
Children spend most of their waking hours playing.
They spend their time in
Acquiring skills eg girls learn how to imitate cooking, how to attend baby, boys imitate driving toy cars.
Acquiring ideas e.g. how to wash clothes. Acquiring values politeness, love, kindness. These will guide them when they are alone. So they will insist on your help as apparent.
HOW TO GIVE THIS HELP
Demonstrate-let the child see you doing so as to learn. Don’t reject or neglect him
If he doesn’t learn this will show later in life.eg he will go to form 1 and cannot as his own clothes or shoes.
Participate-be there for your child in order: To collect
To instruct
Spend time and see them as they play: Deut: 6:4-7
Every time is teaching time and the learning and teaching is done as they play
Never expect them to sit quietly Think logically
Act realistically
Instead enjoy playing with them Listen to them
Care for them. PHYSICALLY
Lower body lengthens
Fat accumulated at infancy is burned off. Stomach no longer protruding.
Face no longer round.
They look like adults but are in their play yrs. WHAT TO DO
Feed them well and allow them to play. They will gain 3inches and 2kg per year. EATING HABITS
Growth is slower so they need fewer calories
Appetite is smaller so they will hate food but this is not a medical problem Feed them in small quantities but with balanced diet.
Avoid junk food since obesity starts here. MOVEMENT
Can run, jump play so give enough room and allow them. Cannot tie shoe laces pour water in a glass because? Have not acquired patience judgment and muscle control.
Fingers are short and fat therefore:
Don’t shout at them they are not at fault are learning. Partner with them when doing fine tasks.
Select toys geared to learning (not a toy gun). Wrong value of life as worthless

Boys chasing and girls screaming develops defense assertiveness standing up for oneself.
WAY OF THINKING
Confuse appearance with reality
Believes that others see things as they see. You sweep as they do.
So don’t do tasks for them If stuck give more time. Divide the task
Instruct verbally touch and show SPEAKING TO THEMSELVES This helps in:

Don’t be sarcastic will think it is real
