The University of Iowa is located in the southeast part of the state, in a town called Iowa City. It is also located on the shores of the Iowa River. Iowa City is often listed in "best places to live" studies because of the great public schools, safe neighborhoods and educated population. Iowa City and the surrounding areas have a total population of about 90,000 people, part of which are the students enrolled at the nearby University. There are over 28,000 students enrolled at the University of Iowa. The makeup of students is diverse. 64% of students enrolled at the University of Iowa are residents of Iowa. Another 21% of students come from the adjoining states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota. 8% of students come from other states in the U.S. There are also students from 106 countries around the world represented at the University Of Iowa.
