Lectures, field exercises, small-group work, simulations and case studies create a robust

interactive dynamic for learning new insights and skills to more sustainably manage fisheries.

The course is based on leadership development, focusing on transformational change at multiple levels—from individual to societal. Team building, a theme woven throughout each day,

emerges as a major benefit of the three-week experience. The course develops leadership ability and insight. The overall purpose of this course is to assist participants in developing a plan of action for bringing about changes in fisheries management.

What are the benefits of attending?

This course is for individuals who are actively engaged in fisheries science and management and for those whose work is increasingly affected by the issues of overfishing, biodiversity losses, ecosystem changes, food security and poverty. The program provides valuable peer and faculty feedback for improving leadership skills. This is a rare opportunity for reflection and networking with leading fisheries science and management practitioners.

Participants will learn how programs around the world are:

 Building successful co-management teams and implementation plans

 Balancing biological, social and economic drivers

 Developing management objectives and reference points

 Applying new management tools

 Understanding behavior change and diffusion of change

 Practicing empowerment and leadership

Proficiency in reading, speaking and writing English is required.
