Class Participation:

I encourage you to participate in classes by asking pertinent questions, or making observations which will be useful to the other students. However, I ask that we do so in a professional manner—waiting to be recognized. See

“Students Responsibility” below for further clarifications of my expectations

Examination Policy:

You will be given five examinations, including the final exam; each will be weighted at 18% of the course grade. 10% of your grade will be based on attendance, class participation, and home presentations. Students should expect to take examinations when scheduled unless a confirmable and important reason exists for missing an exam.

Missing exams at the regularly scheduled time is strongly discouraged. If you must miss an exam, please let me know as soon as practical. Please note that minor illness such as a cold or allergy is not an acceptable reason for missing an exam. Makeup exams will be given at a mutually convenient time.

Grading Policy:

Grading is on a 10 point system. Average from 90 to 100 would be an “A”, from 80 to 89.99 would be a “B”, and so forth. Grades might be raised or curved for students with excellent attendance and comportment, at my

discretion.

Disability Statement:

A student with a disability that qualifies for accommodations should contact Sarah Mead Smith, Director of Disability Services at 865-2990 (Academic Resource Center, Room 405, Monroe Hall). A student wishing to receive a test accommodation (e.g., extended test time) should provide the instructor with an official

Accommodation Form from Disability Services in advance of the scheduled test date.

Student Responsibility:

1. To read the assigned chapter(s) before coming to class.

2. To come to class with a list of questions regarding issues covered in the assigned chapter for which you have difficulty understanding.

3. To come to class prepared to answer questions that I pose regarding the text material

4. To complete all homework assignments when assigned, and to then check your solution against the solution manual, which is posted onto Black Board. If a student doesn’t understand a problem after working the problem and checking the solution manual, the student should see me for assistance. I have given you the solution manuals as a learning aid. You will be best served by working the problems and using the solution manual to assess your progress. I expect you to be able to present, defend, and explain the solution to the homework problems.

5. To arrive on time for class. Late arrivals should be infrequent. If you are late, make sure that you see me after class so that you are credited with attending class.

6. To ask meaningful questions in class as appropriate. 7. To turn off cell phones while in class.

If you come to class having read the chapter scheduled, take good notes, work the assigned problems until you understand these thoroughly, and study for the exam, you should do very well in this course.
