"Matt Majdanski, a member of Boy Scout Troop 174, and also a member of the St. Patrick’s Youth

Group and Choir, is working on his community service based Eagle Scout Project, which involves constructing a community message board kiosk at the Yorktown Dog Park. As part of the requirements to complete this project he must raise the funds to cover the cost of materials, therefore he is seeking donations after Mass on October 8 & 9th. He wants to thank our parishioners in advance, and appreciates any support you can offer."

A N o t e f r o m t h e P a s t o r ’s D e s k

Dear Parishioners,

This week, I want to give a little update on a few things.

I have been here now for three months and I am extremely happy to be the Pastor of

such a wonderful parish. A beautiful Mass of Farewell for Fr. Pomeisl last weekend and a

reception to follow reminded me of how warm our people are. Fr. Bisignano, Msgr. Barry,

Fr. Tom and I concelebrated the Mass and Deacon Schiebe was assisting as well. It felt

like a family affair. I look forward to next Sunday’s 12:30pm Mass of Thanksgiving for all

the blessings of this parish.

I am finding that some people are still anxious about possible changes that I will

make as Pastor. In fact, someone recently asked me if I was pushing their group out as I

pushed out other groups. For the record, I have not pushed out

any

groups from the parish.

Frankly, one of the few substantial changes I have made thus far is to insist that the Main

Church be locked and the alarm set at 9:00pm each day. It might be in that sense that a

few groups feel that they have been pushed out. A few groups have had regular activities

that went well past 9:00pm in the Parish Center below the Church. A few other groups

have had annual dinners or gatherings that lasted until nearly midnight. I have simply said

that the Church has to be locked and alarmed at 9:00pm unless a priest assigned to this

parish is part of the gathering until the end of the event. The reason being that the priests

have to lock and alarm the Church.

I ask those few groups who feel slighted to realize that I will not ask the priest to

lock up at such late hours. Please understand that many churches in the Archdiocese are

not opened much after Masses and most close before dark. It is an issue of both security

and consideration for those who have to lock up and then start all over again the next

morning.

Hopefully, this will help those affected to at least understand my decision. I will

always attempt to explain. Always feel free to ask for clarification.
