Dear Parishioners and Friends,
PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS. The elections for pastoral council are scheduled for the weekend of the 23rd and 24th, two weeks away. The deadline for indicating you want to be involved in the working of our parish I’ve set as October 13th. We want to have the information about candidates, both those who want to be reelected and new candi- dates, available to everyone the weekend before the election. I know people often do things last minute, but so far, we only have a few candidates who have contacted me, though I know others have expressed at least some interest in run- ning for the Council. Send me a short bio and why you want to run for Council along with a picture and we will get that out to everyone to have an informed vote.
HOMECOMING AND PET BLESSINGS. This past week has been busy but enjoyable as well. The St. Francis School children were in the homecoming parade October 1st and we all got to ride in a hay wagon and throw out candy and beachballs to the fans on the street and I attended my first Panthers’ football game. While Prescott had a good game plan at the beginning, it didn’t hold up against the speed and athletic ability of the Panthers. It was fun to watch and that snarly big cat growl is pretty cool.
On the feast of St. Francis, October 4, we had a pet blessing for the school children. I blessed lots of dogs and cats, but also turtles and a horse! Children who couldn’t get their pets to the school on Monday brought along pictures of pets. I suppose we would call that a blessing by proxy. All of it is a sign of God’s providential care for his creation.
Go out and make Jesus famous!

SCHOOL NEWS
At St. Francis School, we believe penmanship and cursive handwriting are important. To build on this life skill we have developed a program where students will practice handwriting, learn to read others' handwriting, address an envelope, and build relationships, as well as, friendships with some of our parishioners through our "Parishioner Pen Pal Pro- gram".
Students in 3rd5th grade will be writing in cursive and we ask that pen pals respond back in cursive. Students in pre- school2nd grade will be using handwritten penmanship and may even send a coloring sheet or two.
This program runs from October through the remainder of the school year, with a meet and greet at the end of the year!
Our hopes are that there is monthly correspondence between pen pals.
If you would like to be a pen pal you can signup either electronically through Facebook or call the school at 715 273
4391 and provide your name and address or email your name and address to principal@stfrancisellsworth.org. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
