ABSTRACT

on the Train Movie Script Using Grice’s Cooperative Principle. Undergraduate
thesis for Sarjana Sastra Degree, English Department, Faculty of Letter,
Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
This research explores the alcoholic woman talks by Grice’s theory of cooperative principle. The aim of this research is to identify and classify the kind
of observance and non-observance maxims that conducted by the alcoholic
woman in her utterance and the reaction of the alcoholic woman’s interlocutor.
Meanwhile, descriptive qualitative method is employing this research.
The data were taken from the alcoholic woman utterances. Based on the data
obtained, there are 25 data that contained observance and non-observance
maxims of cooperative principle. There are 8 data happens when the alcoholic
woman in alcoholism. So, 17data happens when the alcoholic woman in normal
situation. The results show that for the observance maxim, the maxim of relation
is the most often. Then for the non-observance maxim, flouting the maxim of
quantity and violating the maxim of manner are frequently used by the alcoholic
woman. These results suggest that the interlocutor’s reaction of the alcoholic
woman talks is different from each other. It is based on their relationship with
the alcoholic woman.

Penelitian ini menyelidiki tentang ucapan wanita pemabuk menggunakan teori
dari Grice mengenai prinsip kerja sama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk
mengidentifikasi dan mengklasifikasi jenis dari kepatuhan dan ketidak patuhan
terhadap maksim yang diucapkan oleh wanita pemabuk dan reaksi lawan bicara
terhadap ucapan dari wanita pemabuk.
Data didapatkan dari ucapan wanita pemabuk. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh, terdapat 25 data yang mengandung ketaatan dan ketidaktaatan maksim dari prinsip kerjasama. Terdapat 8 data yang terjadi saat wanita pecandu alcohol tersebut dalam keadaan mabuk. Sedangkan 17 data lainnya terjadi pada saat wanita pecandu alcohol itu dalam keadaan normal. Hasil menunjukan bahwa ketaatan maksim yaitu maxim of relation yang paling sering digunakan. Selanjutnya untuk ketidaktaatan maxim, mencemooh maxim of quantity dan melanggar maxim of manner adalah yang paling sering dilakukan oleh wanita pemabuk. Dari hasil penelitian secara tidak langsung menyatakan bahwa reaksi orang terhadap apa yang diucapkan oleh wanita pemabuk berbeda-beda antara satu dan yang lain. Perbedaan tersebut tergantung dari hubungan yang dimilki antara orang tersebut dan wanita pemabuk.
