ABSTRACT
Yusuf Maulana Ibrahim, 2014. The Activities of New Local Guide in Mangkunegaran Palace, English Diploma Program, Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts,
Sebelas Maret University.
The final project report is written based on the writer’s job training as a Guide in
Mangkunegaran Palace for the Period of June 1st – July 30th 2013. The objectives of the
final project report are to describe the experience and the problem faced by Mangkunegaran Palace when the writer did job training as guide in Mangkunegaran Palace.
There were some activities that experienced by the writer. The first one is
getting information about Mangkunegaran Palace. After that, the writer joined guiding technique class. The third activity is escorting which means following senior local guides in their guiding activities. The fourth one is having a test from senior guide and the last but not least, the writer starts guiding the real tourists/ visitors coming to Mangkunegaran Palace.
Besides, the writer also found some problems during his training program at
Mangkunegaran Palace. The problems are caused by some reasons such as the short
open hours, the lack of dicipline, the lack of professionalism and the lack of language skills. The writer proposes some solutions for the problems mentioned above. They are maximizing the open hour to increase the number of visitors of this palace, improving the quality management by conducting quality training and making cooperation with related institutions, recruiting professional guide having a good English and official HPI certificate. The last but not least is making written rules to create a dicipline behavior for all elements of Mangkunegaran Palace.
