Indonesian students' writing skill is low, where writing is considered a difficult skill.This is indicated by Mufit, Asrizal, Hanum & Fadhilah (2020) that Indonesian student's new literacy integration and concept understanding is poor. One of the difficulties in writing is generating ideas. Generating Ideas is the early stage in conducting academic writing. Therefore the guideline for generating ideas is considered to be constructed. The purpose of the study is to recognize the characteristics of guidelines and to develop guideline for generating ideas. The research applies descriptive qualitative method which using interview technique and relevant literaturesto collect the data. The data analysis was conducted by implementing semi- transcriptions and synthesizing data. The findings was presented the characteristics of guidelines from eight aspects and the research product has been reach 88.5 score which determine as “very good” and it has been validated by doctoral expert.
