STEVIA DESCARENZA. C1307022. 2013. The Use of Code Switching by the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta (A Sociolinguistics Approach). Thesis: English Department, Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts, Sebelas Maret University.
The research is based on Sociolonguistics study. The aims of the research are to describe the forms of code switching committed by the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta, and to explain the motives that become the backgrounds of code switching committed by the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta.
This research employs descriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from the recording in the learning and teaching activity of Biology class in the VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta and the interview with Miss Poncowati, the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta.
In describing the forms of code switching, this research uses Poplack Theory. Moreover, the research explains the motives that become the backgrounds of code switching committed by the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta.
The findings of the research show that there are three forms of code switching committed by the Biology teacher of VII i class of SMPN 4 Surakarta. They are intersentential code switching, intrasentential code switching, and tag switching.
