NEWS FROM AROUND THE PARISH

Howdy ho residents of Lake View and the surrounding villages, Weiv Ekal Jr, your hometown reporter is back yet again. Last Saturday, the Altar & Rosary Society shared a lovely meal as a group at the new and

improved West End Inn. I remember when I could still tie a horse up outside that place! The ministry saw a great turnout and wants me to remind all women of the ministry to join them on January 30th at 9:30 AM Mass for installation of officers, a blessing, some public embarrassment from the pastor, and oh of course a photo! Don’t forget to wear your blue. Although I won’t be able to stuff my face with their homemade cookies this year, I am looking forward to the next generation coming up and leading such a valuable ministry. Last Saturday, our men’s prayer group had a great turnout and discussion to launch their 2022 year.

They meet once a month, always on a Saturday, and will always feed you donuts! Who doesn’t love time with Jesus and donuts! Until next time y’all!

 Weiv Ekal Jr.

OPLATEK AND THE KATHLEEN MARY HOUSE

During the Advent Season, our parish made Oplatek available to our parishioners, with an option to offer a donation. The $254.40 collected was donated to the Kathleen Mary House, a safehouse for victims of domestic violence. One again the generosity of our parishioners has helped those in need. Thank You for your generous response! May God Continue To Bless You!

THANK YOU± ADVENT SEASON

On behalf of the local families and charitable organizations who were the recipients of your generosity, we want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your continued support during our annual Advent Giving Tree Program. In the midst of a season where we can be easily distracted with holiday celebrations, shopping and wrapping, YOU came through with gifts that allowed those in need to have a Christmas celebration that they may not have been able to enjoy. Below are excerpts from some of the Thank You Cards we’ve received from the recipients.

From our Adopted Refugee Family:

Dear Church members…. Thank you very much for your generous support. We are very grateful. My family greatly appreciates your Love, Kindness and Support. Enjoy God’s goodness in the New Year.

From the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center:

Dear St. John Paul II Parish Family; Thank you for the amazing efforts brought to our Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center children and youth. Jesus is alive because of your caring and loving spirit! Each child received the Christmas gift that they wanted most….all because of you! God Bless All Of You!!! Truly…the WNY Children’s Psychiatric Center Family

From the Little Portion Friary:

We extend our deepest gratitude to the parishioners of St. John Paul II Parish. You have all been very generous to the Little Portion Friary over the past several years. The clothing and gift cards that you provided during Advent and Christmas enable us to continue our ministry to the homeless people of Buffalo.

Thank You! “Stay Positive! Test Negative!”

HAITI TWINNING PROGRAM

THANK YOU! Our parish twinning with Sainte Therese de l’Enfant Jesus in southeast Haiti supports our sister church located in Maribal, one of the poorest parts of that country. Our parish has committed to sending $100 per month, but for the 12 month period from September 2020 through August 2021, you have provided considerably more than that amount to help support our sister parish. In fact, we were able to send more than double the amount that we have committed to! The parishioners at Sainte Therese say “Thank you for your support!” The Pastor, Pere Joseph, sends his “Prayers and Blessings…. and may God bless you through Jesus Christ.” Your continued financial support is important to help our Catholic brothers and sisters, so watch for the Haiti Ministry volunteers who hold the basket in the Gathering Space before and after Masses one Sunday a month, and drop in your donations. Volunteers are always needed. If you would like to help by holding the basket before a particular Mass, we always welcome new volunteers.

(We especially need volunteers for the Noon Mass).

HOLY MOVIE NIGHT

We will host a series of Holy Movie Nights in our Community Room on the following consecutive Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM: January 27,

February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3. During this 6 week season we will view the popular Christian video se- ries “The Chosen”. This entertaining series focuses on the ‘back stories’ of the people who Jesus chose as his disciples when he began his public ministry in Galilee. The writers use bible stories familiar to all of us, and add their own unique back stories to put flesh on Peter, Andrew, Mary of Magdala, Matthew, and the others we are familiar with from the gospel stories. “The Chosen” is the largest CrowdFunded project ever undertaken in the United States. Millions of people have donated to allow the writers to produce this series, and millions have already enjoyed viewing it. We’ll share a bit of background before each segment, and then enjoy the cinematic presentation of the bible stories that we’re all familiar with. You’ve never seen anything like this. So Don’t Miss It! We’ll pop the popcorn. You bring your family and friends. This is a familyfriendly series, and is ageappropriate for middle school and older.
