EXAMINATION PAPER FORMAT
The UPSR English 034 paper has three sections A, B and C which consist of 4 questions
– All the questions must be answered
SECTION A : Comprehension
SECTION B (i) : Filling in the blanks/comprehension
(ii) : Writing essay
Example of Excellent Answer 1:
Candidates were able to transfer the information by applying the singular and plural form from the non-linear text given without any spelling mistakes. For example, transferring
“Female frogs lay their eggs in water” into “A frog lays its eggs in the water”.

Candidates were able to transfer most of the information but were unable to apply the singular and plural form from the non-linear text given. Example; “…the eggs hatch become a tadpole”. They were unable to write the answers with correct spelling and grammar such as “the tail will disappears”.

Example of Excellent Answer:
Candidates were able to list the types of news available based on the given programme schedule correctly with accurate punctuation and spelling. Eg. “Sports News” instead of “sports news”, “World News” instead of “Word New”.

Based on the programme schedule given, the candidates are required to choose two programme that they would like to match and give a reason for each of their choice. Candidates should write their answer between 50 and 80 words. The answer should be structurally and grammatically correct.

Candidates were able to follow the instructions given by choosing two programmes which they like from the given programme schedule and give logical reasons for their choices. Candidates were also able to write their answers using interesting expressions with hardly any mistakes. Eg. “the characters in the cartoon are funny”, “about three

The candidates were able to select two programmes and give reasons each with some minor errors. Example ; The Billy Bobby cartoon hero is Billy.
Candidates are required to write a story based on the given picture. Candidates may use the words given to help them to write the story in the space provided. Candidates are required to write the story between 80 and 100 words. The story should be written with correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation in paragraphs. Candidates are required to write a story based on the pictures given. Candidates may use the words given to help them to write the story in the space provided. Candidates are required to write the story between 80 and 100 words. The story should be written with correct grammar,spelling,sentence structure and punctuation in paragraphs.

SUGGESTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. Read more English materials to maintain a high level of English proficiency.
2. Watch English programmes on television such as documentaries, news and children educational series.
SUGGESTIONS TO TEACHERS
1. Teach all the skills listed in the syllabus and make full use of the Year 4, 5 and 6 textbooks.
2. Encourage students to use the language widely in their everyday activities for example converse with teachers and peers in English.
3. Make sure that the students have mastered the vocabulary listed in the DSKP. 4. Create meaningful English environment inside and outside the classroom. 5. Plan student-centred English learning which is fun and interesting.
