ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini berjudul “Program “Sumut Dalam Berita” dan Kebutuhan Informasi Lokal (Studi Deskriptif Kuantitatif Peranan Program “Sumut Dalam Berita” di Lembaga Penyiaran Publik TVRI Siaran Sumut Terhadap Kebutuhan Informasi Lokal Pada Mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara)”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan pengaruh peranan program “Sumut Dalam Berita” di LPP TVRI Siaran Sumut terhadap kebutuhan informasi lokal pada mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif yang mencari hubungan antara variabel X (program “Sumut Dalam Berita” di LPP TVRI Siaran Sumut) dengan variabel Y (kebutuhan informasi lokal mahasiswa). Penelitian ini dilakukan di kampus Universitas Sumatera Utara dengan paradigm deskriprif kuantitatif. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis table tunggal dalam menganalisis sejumlah frekuensi dan kolom persentase untuk setiap kategori.Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan penelitian kepustakaan (Library Research). Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 20.575 mahasiswa dengan sampel yang didapat menggunakan rumus Slovin (1996) sebanyak 100 orang. Teknik penarikan sampel teknik purposive sampling dan accidental sampling. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori komunikasi, komunikasi massa, televisi, berita, konten lokal dan teori stimulus-organism-respons. Dari hasil analisis data yang telah dilakukan didapat peranan program “Sumut Dalam Berita” di LPP TVRI Siaran Sumut berpengaruh terhadap kebutuhan informasi lokal mahasiswa. Mahasiswa membutuhkan informasi lokal di daerah Sumatera Utara yang dikemas dengan sedemikian rupa sehingga mampu memenuhi kebutuhan informasi mahasiswa.

ABSTRACT
This study entitled "Program" Sumatra In The News "and information needs of Local (Quantitative Descriptive Study Role of Program" Sumatra In The News "on the Public Broadcasting TVRI broadcast Sumatra Against Local Information Needs In North Sumatra University Students)". The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of the role of the program "Sumatra In the News" in LPP TVRI broadcast Sumatra to the needs of local information on students at the University of North Sumatra. This research uses descriptive method to find a relationship between variables X (program "Sumatra In the News" in LPP TVRI broadcast Sumatra) with a variable Y (the information needs of local students). This research was conducted at the University of North Sumatra with decriptive quantitative paradigm. Data were analyzed using analysis of a single table in analyzing a number of frequencies and percentages for each kategori.Pengumpulan column data using questionnaires and research library (Library Research). The population in this study amounted to 20 575 students with samples obtained using the formula Slovin (1996) as many as 100 people. The sampling technique using purposive sampling and accidental sampling. The theory used in this research is the theory of communication, mass communication, television, news, local content and theory of stimulus-organism-response. Data analysis has been done obtained the role of program "Sumatra In the News" in LPP TVRI broadcast Sumatra influence the information needs of local students. Students need local information in North Sumatra were packed in such a way so as to meet the information needs of students.
