1. We

chose EBSCOhost

as the research database;

2. We considered only peer-reviewed

management journal articles

published in

English. Conversely, we did not take into account books, chapters in books, conference

proceedings, working papers and other unpublished works;

3. We

ensured for the substantive relevance of the articles’ focus on

personality traits by

in their abstract or title

: ‘‘

personalit

’’, or ‘‘narcissism’’, or

‘‘extraversion’’, or ‘‘emotional stability’’, or ‘‘agreeableness’’, or ‘‘conscientiousness’’, or

‘‘openness’’.

4. We

by requiring that all those articles selected in the previous phase also contain, at

least, one of the following 7 additional keywords in their abstract or title

: ‘‘firm*’’ or

‘‘

compan

*’’ or ‘‘CEO*’’ or ‘‘top management team*’’ or ‘‘board*’’ or ‘‘corporation*’’ or

‘‘

enterp

identify CEO/TMT samples strictly;

5. We scanned all the articles selected in the previous phase by

reading their abstracts

to ensure substantive content

;

6. We

controlled the articles’

relevance by reading the text

of all the articles selected

through the previous screening of abstracts. This allowed for the conclusive alignment

between the chosen works and the research goals;

7. We finally adopted a

‘‘snowballing’’ technique
