ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menelaah peningkatan kemampuan representasi dan self-esteem matematis antara siswa yang belajar dengan menggunakan metode guided discovery dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP di Kabupaten Bulukumba Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015, sedangkan sampel penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas VIII di satu SMP Kabupaten Bulukumba. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan representasi matematis, dan angket self-esteem. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji perbedaan rataan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, (1) kemampuan representasi matematika siswa yang dengan menggunakan metode guided discovery lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa; (2) peningkatan representasi matematis siswa yang belajar dengan metode guided discovery lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran biasa; (3) kemampuan self-esteem siswa yang belajar dengan metode guided discovery lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa; (4) peningkatan
self-esteem siswa yang belajar dengan menggunakan metode guided discovery lebih baik
daripada siswa yang belajar dengan pembelajaran biasa.

ABSTRACT
This research reviewed the improvement of mathematical representation and self-esteem problem between students who learnt through guided discovery learning and students who received conventional learning that has been evaluated for all type of students ability. This research is a quasi experimental with nonequivalent control group design.
Population of this reseacrh was students of 8th grader junior high school in Bulukumba
Regency in 2015. Sample of this research consisted of students of 8th grader from one
junior high school in Bulukumba Regency. Instruments that have been conducted in this research are mathematics representation ability test and self-esteem questionnaire. Quantitative analysis was conducted by using mean average difference test. The result showed that, (1) mathematical representation ability of students who learnt through guided discovery learning was better than students who received conventional learning; (2) the increase of mathematical representation ability of students who learnt thr ough guided discovery learning was better than students who received conventional learning activity. (3) mathematical self-esteem of students who learnt through guided discovery learning is better than students who received conventional learning; (4) the increase of mathematical self-esteem of students who learnt through guided discovery learning was better than students who received conventional learning.
