ABSTRACT
This research focuses on the address terms and Tu – Vous dimension used by married Javanese families and married Chinese families especially on husbands
and wives. This research also compares married Javanese families and married
Chinese families on the usage address terms to know which families are more
democratic. Besides, this research also describes about the Tu – Vous dimension
which is used by married Javanese families and married Chinese families based
on the status factor in the family. The writer collected the data from the interview with 5 married Javanese families and 5 married Chinese families. The writer also
collected the data from the questionnaires which were distributed to 100 families who come from 50 married Javanese families and 50 married Chinese families. In
this research, it was found that in the married Javanese families (49 %), husbands
addressed their wives using Tu dimension and received Vous dimension in return.
It shows that in married Javanese families there is an asymmetrical relation
between husbands and wives. On the contrary, in the married Chinese families (37
%), husbands and wives called each other using Tu dimension. It indicated that in
married Chinese families there is a symmetrical relationship between husbands and wives. Moreover, the Chinese families are more democratic than Javanese

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada kata sapaan dan dimensi Tu – Vous yang digunakan oleh keluarga Jawa dan keluarga Cina yang sudah menikah terutama pada suami
dan istri. Pada penelitian ini juga membandingkan keluarga apa yang lebih demokratis, antara keluarga Jawa dan keluarga Cina didalam penggunaan kata
sapaan. Selain itu, dalam penelitian ini juga membahas tentang penggunaan dimensi Tu – Vous yang digunakan oleh keluarga Jawa dan keluarga Cina yang
sudah menikah yang berdasarkan oleh faktor status dalam keluarga. Penulis mengumpulkan data dari interview dengan 5 keluarga Jawa dan 5 keluarga Cina.
Penulis juga mengumpulkan data dari kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada 100 keluarga yang berasal dari 50 keluarga Jawa dan 50 keluarga Cina. Pada
penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa 49 % keluarga Jawa, yaitu suami memanggil
istrinya menggunakan dimensi Tu dan menerima dimensi Vous. Hal ini
menunjukkan bahwa di keluarga Jawa terdapat hubungan asimetris antara suami
dan istri. Sebaliknya, pada 37 % keluarga Cina antara suami dan istri
menggunakan dimensi Tu untuk memanggil satu sama lain. Hal ini
mengindikasikan bahwa di keluarga Cina terdapat hubungan simetris antara suami dan istri. Terlebih lagi keluarga Cina lebih demokratis dibandingkan dengan
