َناَض َمَر ِرٌَْش ِعاَدٍَِل ُى ُؤاَغُد

Merits of Imam Sadiq’s (A) Supplication for bidding Farewell to the Month of Ramadan

Shaykh al-Kulayniy, in his

book of „

al-Kafi

‟ has reported

on the authority of Abu-Basir

that Imam al-Sadiq (a.s)

instructed that the following

supplication might be said

د َّمَح ُم ِل

ٓاَو دَّمَحُم ََلَغ ِّوَص َّمٌَُّللٔا

O' Allāh send Your blessings on Muhammad

and the family of Muhammad.

ِيَّللا ِمْشِب

ِنََٰمْحَّرلا

ِمّ ِحَّرلا

In the Name of Allāh,

the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

bi-smi llahi r-rahmani r-rahimi

َمِباج ِ ه ُِف َت

ِلَزْوُم

ْلا

:

O Allāh: You have said in Your revealed Book:

”

ِيِّف َلِزهُا ي ِذ

َّلا َناَضَمَر ُرٌَْش

ُنٓاْر ُكْلا

.“

“The month of Ramadan in which the Qur'an was revealed…”

“shahru ramadana alladhiy unzila fihi

alqur‟anu.”

َناض َمَر ُرٌَْش ا َذً َو

And this month of Ramadan

َمَّرَصَث ْدَل َو

is about to slip away.

waqad tasarrama

ِمِِرَن

ْلا َمٌِْجٍَِب َمُلٔاْصٔاَف

I thus beseech You in the name of Your Noble Face,

ِة َّماّجلا َمِثامِلَه َو

And Your Perfect Words,

wakalimatika alttammati

ُل

If I am still liable to a sin that You have not yet forgiven

ِيَّْل َغ ُِوَب ِّذ َػُث ْنٔا ُدِِرُث ْو

ٔا

or You want to punish me for it,

aw turidu an tu`adhdhibaniy `alayhi

ِيِب ُِوَشِِاكُث ْو

ٔا

or to retaliate upon me because of it,

ِةَلَّْللا ِى ِذًَ ُرْجَف َعُلْطَِ لا ْنٔا

(I beseech You that) before dawn of this night rises

an la yatlu`a fajru hadhihii allaylati

ُرٌَّْشلا اذً ُمَّرَصَجَِ ْؤا

And before this moth elapses

ُل ُيَثْرَفَغ ْدَل َو َّلاإ

(please) forgive it for me;

illa waqad ghafartahu li

َنِّم ِحاّرلا َمَحْرٔا اِ

.

O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.

اٌِّلُه َك ِدِماحَمِب ُدْمَح

ْلا َمَل َّمٌُّللَا

O Allāh: all praise be to You in all expressions of praise—

allahumma laka alhamdu bimahamidika kulliha

اًِر ِخ

ٓاَو اٌِلَّؤا

The first and the last expressions;

اٌْوِم َم ِشْفَوِل َتْلُل ام

Expressions that You have said about Yourself,

ma qulta linafsika minha

َنودِماحْلا ُقِئلاَخْلا َلال ام َو

And expressions that have been used by the created beings;

َنودود ْػ َمْلا َنودٌَِجْج ُم

ْلا

The beings that are diligent, selected,

almujtahiduna alma`duduna

َكِرْهِذ َنورِّلٍَُم

ْلا

Revering their mention of You,

َمَل َرْنُّشلا َو

And their thanking You,

walshshukra laka

َمِّكَح ِءادٔا َل َغ ْمٌَُجْو َغٔا َنِذَّلا

Whom You helped carry out Your duty that is incumbent upon them,

َمِكْلَخ ِفاوْصٔا ْنِم

From among the varieties of Your creatures;

min asnafi khalqika

َنّب َّرَك ُمْلا ِةَنِئلا َمْلا َنِم

Such as the Favorite Angels,

َنِّلَصْر ُمْلا َو َنِِّّّبَّولا َو

The Prophets, the Messengers,

walnnabiyyina walmursalina

َنّك ِطاّولا ِفاوْصٔا َو

And the other varieties who speak of Your praise

ِعِّمَج ْنِم َم

َل َنّ ِحِّبَشُمْلاَو

َنِّم

َلاػْلا

And glorify You from among all the creatures.

walmusabbihina laka min jami`i al`alamina

َناض َمَر َرٌَْش اوَج ْغَّلَب َمَّهٔا َل َغ

(Praise be to You for) You have allowed us to witness the month of Ramadan,

َمِم َػِه ْنِم اوَّْلَغ َو

While we are covered by Your graces

wa`alayna min ni`amika

َمِهاشْحإ َو َمِمَشِل ْنِم اه َدْوِغ َو

And we are enjoying Your bounties and favors

ِرًُاظَث َو

َمِهاوِج ْمإ

And Your evident conferrals.

watazhahuri imtinanika

ِد ْمَحْلا ٌََجْو ُم َمَل َمِل َذِبَف

For all that, the ultimate praise be to You,

ِمِئا ّدلا ِدِلاخ

ْلا

Praise that is perpetual and ceaseless

alkhalidi alddaiimi

ِد َمْرَّشلا ِدَّلَخ ُمْلا ِدِهاّرلا

And endless and eternal and everlasting

ِدَبٔلاا َلٍُط ُدَفْوَِ لا يذَّلا

Praise that never ends evermore.

alladhy la yanfadu tuwla alabadi

َكؤاوَث َّوَج

Splendid be the praising of You,

ُي َماّ ِص اوَّْضَل َّجَح ِيَّْل َغ اوَجْو َغٔا

ُي َماِّل َو

For You have helped us accomplish our fasting and acts of worship in

this month,

a`antana `alayhi hatta qadayna syamahu waqyamahu

ٍّرِب ْنِم ِيّف اّوِم َناه ام َو ٍةلاَص ْنِم

Including prayers and whatever good deed that we have done during this

month

ٍرْهِذ ْو

ٔا ٍرْنُش ْؤا

.

As well as all praise and mention of You.

aw shukrin aw dhikrin.

َمِلٍبَل ِنَشْح

ٔاِب اّوِم ُيْلَّبَكَجَف َّمٌُّللَا

O Allāh: (please) accept all that from us with the most excellent of Your

approval

َك ٍِْفَغ َو َكِزُواجَث َو

And Your overlooking and Your pardoning

watajauuzika wa`afuika

َمِهارْف ُغ َو َم ِحْفَص َو

And Your excusing and Your forgiving

ِةَكِّكَح َو

َمِهاٍْضِر

And the actuality of Your pleasure

wahaqiqati riduanika

ٍرَّْخ ِّوُنِب ِيِّف اهَرِف

ٍبٍل

ْطَم

So that You may make us win all good turns that is besought

ٍبًٍٍُ َم ٍءاطَغ ِوِزَج َو

And the abundant share from any gifted bestowal

wajazili `ata„in mawhuwbin

ٍبًٍْرَم ِّوُه ْنِم ِيِّف اوَِّّلٍَُث َو

And that You save us from any dangerous matter,

ٍبٍلْج َم ٍءلاَب ْؤا

Or any anticipated misfortune

aw bala„in majlubin

ٍبٍشْن َم ٍبْه َذ ْؤا

.

Or any committed sin.

َمَلٔاَص ام ِمّظ َػِب َم

ُلٔاْصٔا ُّهإ َّمٌُّللَا

َمِكْلَخ ْنِم ٌدَحٔا ِيِب

O Allāh: I beseech You in the name of the greatest of all these by which any

of Your servants have besought You,

allahumma inny asaluka bi`azhimi ma sa-alaka bihi ahadun min khalqika

َمِئامْصٔا ِمِرَه ْنِم

Including Your Noble Names,

َمِئاوَث ِوّمَج َو

And the excellent praising of You

wajamili thanaiika

َمِئاغ ُد ِةَّصاخ َو

And private supplication to You

ٍد َّمَح ُم ِل

ٓاَو ٍدَّمَحُم َلَغ َُِّلَصُث ْنٔا

That You may send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of

Muhammad,

an tusallia `ala muhammadin wa-ali muhammadin

ِرٌَْش َم

اوَّْل َغ َّر َم َناض َمَر

And You may decide this month of

Ramadan to be the greatest month in blessings that we have ever witnessed

ةَهَرَب اّْه ُّدلا َلإ اوْلِزْهُا ُذْو ُم

Since we were sent down to this world,

mundhu aunzilna ila alddunya barakatan

ُِوِ ِد ِة َمْص ِغ ُف

As regarding protection of my religion,

ُ ِشْفَه ِصلاَخ َو

And redemption of myself

wakhalasi nafsi

ُ ِجِئاٍَح ِءاضَل َو

And settlement of my needs

ُِلِئاش َم ُف ُِو َػِّفَشُث َو

And that You may accept my

intercession to You concerning Your settlement of my requests

watushaffi`aniy fy masa‟ili

ََُّل َغ ِة َم ْػِّولا ِمامَث َو

And Your perfecting Your graces upon me

ُّو َغ ِءٍّشلا ِفْرَص َو

And Your keeping evil away from me

wasarfi alssu„i `anni

ِيِّف ُل ِةَِّفاػْلا ِسابِل َو

And Your dressing me with well-being during this month,

َتْر ِخ ْن َّمِم َمِجَمْحَرِب ُوَل َػْجَث ْن

ٔاَو

ِر ْدَك

ْلا َةَلَّْل ُيَل

And that You may include me, out of Your mercy, with those whom You allowed to

obtain the benefits of the Grand Night

wan taj`alany birahmatika mimman khirta lahu laylata alqadri

ٍرٌَْش ِف

ْلٔا ْنِم ارَّْخ ُيَل اٌَجْلَػَجَو

And those for whom You have decided this Night to be better than one

thousand months,

ِرْج

ٔلاا ِمَظْغٔا ُف

As regarding obtaining its vastest rewards,

fy a`zhami alajri

ِرْخ ُّذلا ِمِئارَه َو

And its noblest gifts

ِرْنُّشلا ِنْشُح َو

And approving praiseworthiness

wahusni alshshukri

ِرْم ُػلا ِلٍط َو

And obtaining long lifetime

ِرْشُّ

ْلا ِماوَدَو

.

And perpetuity of comfort.

wadawami aliusri.

َمِل ٍَْط َو َمِج َمْحَرِب َم

ُلٔاْصٔاَو َّمٌُّللَا

O Allāh: I also beseech You in the name of Your mercy and Your

beneficence

َمِئام ْػَه َو َك ٍِْفَغ َو

And Your pardon and Your graces

wa`afuika wana`maiika

َمِهاوِج ْما َو

And Your majesty and Your eternal favoring and conferral

ِرٌَْشِل اّوِم ِدٌْ َػ

ْلا َر ِخٓا ُيَلِػْجَث لا ْنٔا

َناض َمَر

That You may not decide this month of Ramadan to be the last one in our

lifetime;

an la taj`ilahu akhira al`ahdi minna lishahri ramadana

ٍلاح ِنَشْح

ٔا

Rather, You may decide us to catch the coming month of Ramadan while we

enjoy the best of manners

ِيَّْلإ َنِِر ِظاّولا َعَم ُي

َللاًِ ُوَفِّرَػُثَو

ُيَل َنّفِرَج ْػُم

ْلاَو

And that You may decide us to see the new moon of the next month of

Ramadan by including me with those who will see it and realize its value

watu`arrifany hilalahu ma`a alnnazhirina ilayhi walmu`tarifina lahu

َمِجَِّفاغ َف ْغٔا ُف

While I am enjoying the best wellbeing

َمِج َم ْػِه ِم َػْهٔا َو

And the most blissful of Your bounties

wan`ami ni`matika

َمِج َمْحَر ِعَصْو

ٔاَو

And the most expansive of Your mercy

َمِمَشِل ِلَزْج

ٔاَو

And the most abundant of the share of Your sustenance that You decide for

me.

wajzali qisamika

ُىُرَّْغ ٌّبَر ُل َسَّْل يذَّلا َُِّب َر اِ

O my Lord save Whom I have no lord;

َعاد َو ُيَل ُّوِم ُعادٍَلا اذًَ ُنٍنَِ لا

ٍءاوَف

(please) do not decide that this words of bidding the month of Ramadan farewell to be the last farewell after

which there will be my termination

la yakunu hadha aluada`u minny lahu wada`a fana„in

ِءاكِّلِل ُّوِم ِدٌْ َػْلا َر ِخٓا لا َو

And do not decide this time to be the last of my meeting the month of

Ramadan;

َّجَح

ِيّّوَِِرُث

ِعَصْو

ٔا ُف ٍوِبال ْنِم

Rather, You may decide that You will enable me to witness the coming

Ramadan

hatta turiannihi min qabilin fy awsa`i

ِءاجَّرلا ِوَضْف

ٔاو ِمَػِّولا

while I am enjoying the most

expansive graces and attaining the best of my hopes

ِءاف ٍَْلا ِنَشْح

ٔا َلَغ َمَل اَهٔاو

And I am loyal to You in the most faithful manner.

wana laka `ala ahsani aluafa„i

ِءاغ ُّدلا ُعِّمَص َمَّهإ

.

Verily, You are the Hearer of prayers.

ُئاغ ُد ْع َمْصا َّمٌُّللَا

O Allāh: (please) respond to my prayer,

allahumma asma` du`a‟i

َمَل ُلُّل َذَث َو ُغُّرَضَث ْمَحْرا َو

And have mercy upon my

acquiescence and submission before You

َمَّْل َغ ُلُّه ٍََث َو ُِجَهانِجْصا َو

As well as my humbleness and reliance upon You,

wastikanatiy watawakkuly `alayka

ٌمِّلَش ُم َمَل اهٔا َو

While I am totally subservient to You;

ةافاػ ُم لا َو احاجَه ٍجْرٔا لا

I hope success and wellbeing

la arjw najahan wala mu`afatan

َمْوِم َو

And honoring and attainment of my hopes from none save You and

through none save You;

ََُّل َغ ْنُو ْماَف

So, (please) do this favor to me—

famnun `alayya

َكؤاوَث َّوَج

Splendid be the praising of You,

َكؤامْصٔا ْتَص َّد َكَث َو

And sacred be Your Names—

wataqaddasat asmau´ka

اهٔا َو َناض َمَر َرٌَْش ُغّلْبَجِب

َفاػ ُم

By allowing me to witness the (coming) month of Ramadan

ٍروذْح َم َو ٍىورْن َم ِّوُه ْنِم

while I am delivered from any

apprehensive and fearful matter

min kulli makruhin wamahdhurin

، ِقِئاٍَبلا ِعِّمَج ْنِمَو

And from all misfortunes.

َل َغ اوَهاغٔا يذَّلا ِلله ُد ْمَحْلَا

ِماّ ِص

All praise be to Allāh Who has helped us observe fasting

alhamdu lillahi alladhy a`anana `ala syami

ِيِماِّل َو ِرٌَّْشلا اذًَ

during this month and do acts of worship

ُيْوِم ٍةَلَّْل َر ِخٓا ُو َغَّلَب َّجَح

.

Until I am witnessing the last night of this month.

hatta ballaghany akhira laylatin minhu.

ٌرِ ِدَل ء َُْش ِّوُه ََلَغ َتْهَا َو

.

and Your are indeed powerful over everything!

د َّمَح ُم ِل

ٓاَو دَّمَحُم ََلَغ ِّوَص َّمٌَُّللٔا

O' Allāh send Your blessings on Muhammad

and the family of Muhammad.

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
