ABSTRACT
This study was conducted in order to find the most problems that student-teachers encountered and what strategies that they used to overcome the problems. The data of the study was taken from questionnaires that were distributed to 12 student-teachers who underwent teaching practicum in Banyu Biru Junior High School 01. The participants who mostly were in their fourth year study at the English Department of Satya Wacana received the questionnaires each time after they finished their teaching. The questionnaires would be analyzed in two ways which were counting the occurrences of the problems and classifying strategies used by the participants. The study proved that there were no significant of number of occurrences of five problems categories that the participants experienced. Besides, the result also revealed that student-teachers often faced difficulties in managing activity with total occurrence percentage 22% and they also used laissez-faire strategies (43%) to overcome problems that they encountered. The finding of the study provides information for improvement of teacher training programs so that they could equip novice teachers to be more prepared.
