These reading passages are perfect for first and second graders. They reinforce sight word reading and spelling and also highlight challenge or star
words. After reading a seasonally themed passage, students answer
comprehension questions about the passage. Then, they turn over on the back
and respond to a corresponding writing prompt and add an illustration….
Read it.
Write it.
Draw it.
These are ideal for homework because they give students quick practice in four critical areas: vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and written response.

The Elf on the Shelf
Each December Santa sends a special elf to
my house. The elf’s name is Rosie. Rosie
comes each morning to see how I behave. I search the house to find her. Sometimes she does funny things like making snow angels in
the flour! Each night she goes back to the

RACK
Have you ever RACK-ed someone? RACK is an acronym
that stands for Random Acts of Christmas
Kindness. It’s when you do something nice for
someone. Sometimes you do it anonymously; other times they know who was kind to them. You may
pay for someone’s food at a restaurant, or you may put a surprise gift on someone’s doorstep.
RACK-ing others is a fun tradition to start this Christmas.
