ABSTRACT
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RECIPROCAL TEACHING TO TEACH READING COMPREHENSION (An Experimental Study at the Eighth Grade Students of MtsMa’arif NU 1Jatilawangin Academic Year 2013/2014)
By Nur Alifah 0901050134
The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of reciprocal teaching in teaching reading comprehension. This research used quasi experimental method was conducted in MtsMa‟arif NU 1 Jatilawang. There were 40 students in class VIII A as the experimental class and 40 students in in class VIII B as the control class. Both classes were taught with the same learning content. However, the experiment got the treatment with Reciprocal Teaching technique and the control class was taught without Reciprocal Teaching technique. The pre-test and post-test were tested to both classes. There were 30 items of multiple choices for the pre-test and 30 items of multiple choices for the post-test to know students‟ ability in reading comprehension. The result of this research showed that there was a significant difference of the students‟ ability in mastering a text between the students who were taught using Reciprocal Teaching and those who were taught without Reciprocal Teaching. It could be seen on the result of computation of t-test, where t-test result is 2.378 and t-table is 1.664 at the significant level α = 0.05 in df = 78. The result was higher than t-table (2.378>1.664). It meant that the hypothesis that Reciprocal Teaching technique was effective in teaching reading comprehension was accepted.
