ABSTRACT
Morning breakfast is the most important meal of the day; often being neglected by medical students. Therefore, this study is used among first year students of Fakultas Kedokteran (FK), UNPAD batch 2011 staying in Bale Padjadjaran. Until now there are no standard measuring tools for knowledge level on the importance of breakfast thus, causes it difficult to measure this knowledge level. With the presence of standard questionnaire it is therefore related as the knowledge level of the individual measured directly.
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted during the period of July 2012 being students of FK UNPAD batch 2011, which are staying in Bale Padjadjaran to answer a few questions related to the importance of breakfast. The study involved 20 questionnaires for validation at the beginning, one week prior to the actual population being 97. Once validated and is clearly understood by population of study, we then proceed to the next step. One week later, the questionnaires are distributed to 97 students who are not among the 20 person who validated the questions.
From the findings, majority of those who answered the questionnaire have good of knowledge about importance of breakfast. 58% of questionnaire (56 people) had a good level of knowledge about importance of breakfast, the moderate level being 28% (27 people) and finally the poor level of knowledge being 14% (14 people). The major source of information about importance of breakfast is through media such as radio, television and Internet. Probably, these medical students are exposed to the welfare of technology and are more accessible to the teenage world.
