A STUDY ON ELICITATIONS FOR STUDENTS’ TALK IN ENGLISH CLASSES
(A Descriptive Study of EFL Class on the Eight Grades of a Junior High School in Ayah, Kebumen)

The aim of this research was to find out the technique teacher use to elicit students’ talk in English classes. This research had done in SMP N 1 Ayah with 3 English teachers as the interviewee and the all of the three classes of the eight grades. This research is a Descriptive Research which was use observation and semi-structure interview to collect the data. The observation had done in 6 times, there are three classes and the observation was done twice for each class. Then the interview was used to support the data which was got from the observation about
the teachers’ technique to elicit the students’ talk in English classes. The result
from the observation which was got by the researcher is 132 times the teacher elicit the students, and the highest elicitation which was done by the teacher during the observation is when the teachers elicit the students about vocabulary and it is done in 33 times from 6 times observations. Then the average which was researcher found of the elicitation the teacher did in the class of the teacher 1 is 19, teacher 2 is 27 and teacher 3 is 20. So the highest average to do the elicitation is teacher 1. The interview was done with three English teachers about 10-20 minutes for each teacher. The result from the interview is the entire teacher used question to elicit the students to talk and to be more active in the class.
