WITH SEVERITY OF PNEUMONIA AMONG PEDIATRIC PATIENTS AT SANGLAH GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background. Pneumonia still becomes a serious problem in medicine. Mortality and morbidity

due to pneumonia are still very high, especially among children under 5 years. In 2007, about 9.2 million children were died within 1 year, with Asia and Africa contributed 92% of the total cases.

Objective. To determine relathionship between nutritional status with severity of pneumonia

among pediatric patients at Sanglah general hospital.

Methods. This study was a cross sectional study done at respirology division of department of

pediatric faculty of medicine/Sanglah hospital from January until December 2014.

Results. Total sample were 114 patients. Male subjects were more than male (58.8% vs 41.2%).

most subjects were belong to 0-6 months old group 35.1% with good nutritional status 56.11% and severe pneumonia 76.3%. The bivariate analysis showed relationship between those two variables with p value 0.02 and PR (CI 95%) 2.176 (1.094–4.329).

Conclusion. This study concluded that nutritional status was related to severity of pneumonia in

children.
