Abstract
Old age is any individual who is 60 years old and who, in general, undergoes symptoms of the decrease in biological, psychological, social, and economical functions. Body image includes individual attitude toward one’s own body, including his physical, structural, and functional appearance. His feeling includes everything related to sexuality, femininity, masculinity, youth, health, and strength. Self-esteem is the evaluation on the achieved outcome by analysis, to what extent behavior meets ideal. If someone is successful in his life, his self-esteem will increase, but if he fails, his self-self-esteem will decrease. The study used descriptive comparative design. The samples comprised 114 respondents that consisted of 57 old-aged men and 57 old-aged women. The result of the study, using Mann-Whitney test, showed that there was the difference in self-esteem of old-aged men and women on body image. Based on the test, it was found that p=0.003 (p<0.05) which indicated that there was the difference. It is suggested that old-aged people, particularly women, should increase self-esteem rather than body image.
