Guidance notes
Background
We reserve the right to keep some candidates’ work. We keep selected candidates’ work to use as standards, to ensure consistency of marking in future exams, and for examiner training. If we keep any of your candidates’ work we will reduce the postage costs based on the percentage of material returned. We will return any work we keep for standards and training purposes after one year.
Although the utmost care and attention is given to prevent the loss of or damage to work, we cannot accept responsibility for any work that is lost or damaged in transit.
Work for components 0400/03 and 0400/04 will automatically be returned free of charge.
Postage costs
The charge is for returning all the candidates work for the paper you request. It is in the fees list, which is available in the ‘My Messages’ section of CIE Direct or on request from Customer Services. The charge is based on items being returned using a courier and on the work being a maximum size of A2. We may need to make an additional charge to cover costs if the maximum size is exceeded.
Do not include any payment with this form. We will invoice your centre directly.
Please fill in the ‘Total cost per paper’ box to show the amount you expect to be invoiced.
Return of work
Artwork will be returned between August and October for work submitted for the June series, and between February and April for work submitted for the November series.
Any artwork that has been subject to an enquiry about results will not automatically be returned to centres as we are obliged to retain the work in case of an appeal by the centre. The work will only be returned if we receive written notification that the centre will not be launching an appeal.

The deadlines for submitting this form are:
• June series – 30 April
• November series – 31 October
