TRADE AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC
OF
INDONESIAAND
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic moved by the desire tQ strengthen their economic relations and with a view to
enlarging the trade between the two countries, have agreed as follows :
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of t he Syrian Arab Republic shall do their best to increase the volume of trade between the two countries, in accordance with the existing laws and regulations in force in both countries.
Both Governments will grant the required approvals in connection with the deliveries of goods/commodities
according to the general import-export regulations in force in each country during the validity of this agreement.
Ar·ticle· 2
Both Governments shall endeavour to expand the volume of trade between the two countries by supplying to each other goods and services produced by each country that are: mutually advantageous to them.
Artic l e 3
The Contracting Parties agree to grant each other no less favourable treatment in the trade relations between the two countries than that applying to any country
particularly as regards customs rules and formalities,

-customs duties, charges of any kind, and regulations governing the import and export of goods/conunodities.
This treatment shall also be applied to ships and aeroplanes of both countries with respect to port dues to be collected and privileges to be accorded, when entering or leaving the harbours, or airports, as well as to the rules prevailing on the stay of ships and aeroplanes whilst in the harbours or airports.
The above provisions of this Article shall not apply to
a} Advantages and facilities accorded or to be accorded by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to member countries of the ASEAN.
b) Advantages and facilities accorded or to be accorded by
the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic to member states of the Arab League.
c) Advantages and facilities accorded by either of the two
countries to contiguous countries and to advantages and facilities resulting from a customs union or a preference area to which either of the two countries is or may
become a party.
Article 4
Deliveries of g,oods/commodi ties between the Republic of Indonesia and the Syrian Arab Republic will be carried out on the basis of conunercial contracts to be concluded between the enterprises and firms domiciled in the Republic of Indonesia authorized to participate in foreign trade, on the one hand, and the enterprises and firms domiciled in the Syrian Arab Republic similarly authorized, on the other. The above mentioned enterprises and firms, in accordance with the respective laws of the state in which they are domiciled, have the status of independent juridical persons and shall be fully responsible for their conunercial
transactions.

-Article 5
Payment between the two countries shall be effected in freely convertible currency as may be agreed upon between both Parties.
Such payment shall be effected in conformity with the laws and exchange control regulations in force or which may come into force in the two countries during the
validity of this Agreement.
Article 6
All values in the contracts and invoices relating to trade between the Republic of Indonesia and the Syrian Arab Republic as well as payment documents and payment orders between the two countries shall be expressed in freely convertible currency as may be agreed upon between both Parties.
Article 7
Each Party shall allow the holding of permanent or temporary fairs, exhibitions and trade centres by the other and shall extend to the other party, subject to its laws and regulations applicable generally, all facilities for holding such fairs, exhibitions and trade centres.
Article 8
In order to facilitate the implementation of this Agreement, both Parties agree to consult with each other in respect of any matter arising from or in connection with this Trade Agreement.
For this purpose they shall meet at the request of either Party at a convenient date.
Article 9
This Agreement shall come into force provisionally on the day of the signing of this Agreement. It will

-definitively come into force after an exchange of notes to that effect between the two Governments and shall remain in force for a period of one year following the exchange of notes. Unless one of the Parties has notified the other in writing of its intention to terminate the present
Agreement, three months prior to the expiration of the aforesaid period of one year, it shall be considered as automatically extended for another year and thereafter,
subject to the same procedure with respect to its termination for further successive periods of one year each.
In witness whereof the representatives duly authorized by their respective Governments, have signed this Agreement.
Done and signed in Damascus on the 7-0"th day of March, 1976, in two original copies in the English language, both texts being equally authentic.

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic desiring to
consolidate the economic ties between the two countries and promote the trade exchange between エィセュL@ and by virtue of the Article One of the Trade Agre ment concluded
between the two countries on March

1976. Have agreed on the following :Article I : Delivery of the goods between the two countries shall be accomplished in accordance with the two indicative lists ( A & B ) attached to this Protocol. List ( A )
contains the exportable goods from the Republic of Indonesia to the Syrian Arab Republic. List ( B ) contains the
exportable goods from the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Indonesia.
There is nothing in this Protocol which prevents the exchange of other goods not mentioned in the aforesaid two lists.
Article II : Exchange of go.ads between the Republic of Indonesia
and
the Syrian Arab Republic shall be ·carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Protocol, the provisions of the Trade Agreement concluded between the two countries and on the basis of world prices of same products.- 2
-Article III: This Protocol shall be subjected to approval in accordance with the legislation in force in each of the two countries and shall become valid from the date of the exchange of the instruments of its ratifications.

Having signed in Damascus on 18 March 1976 a trade agreement and a protocol for the exchange of goods ,
Having reviewed and fully examined the said agreement and protocol ,
We have accepted and approved them wholly and in detail, and we hereby declare that they have been promulgated by decree N°. 1220 dated 9 July 1977,
We undertake to fully comply with the contents of the agreement and protocol and to observe them with full sincerity.
In testimony thereof , we have signed the agreement and protocol and have ordered the affixing of the seal of the Syrian Arab Republic thereon •

PROCES-VERBAL OF THE EXCHANGE OF INSTRUMENTS
OF RATIFICATION
The undersigned have met today for the purpose
of exchanging the instruments of ratification of the
Protocol between the Government of the Republic of
Indonesia and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic
on the Exchange of Goods signed at Damascus on
March 18, 1976.
These instruments having been examined and found
to be in due form, the exchange took place .
