What we say and how we say it reveals the true intentions of our hearts. The content and manner of our speech is a window into the recesses of our souls. Our consciences, attitudes, sentiments, weaknesses, and motives are displayed. As much as we think we can hide the truth of our lives from others, we cannot. Who we really are is not only expressed on our lips but is written on our faces.

Jesus says precisely this, “For every tree is known by its own fruit.” What does the fruit of our lives say about us?

Because we like to play the game of hide and seek with ourselves, in pretending that we are hiding we deflect attention others may give to us by becoming more critical of others. After all, the more time one can spend analyzing others’ behavior the less time one has to look at his or herself. Often, the behav- iors we abhor most in others are the very ones we are guilty of ourselves. We just don’t know it yet.

The more we put ourselves in the role of a judge, the more satisfaction and control we seem to achieve. Yet, what about ourselves? In focusing our attention on the beams in others’ eyes, the aridity and barrenness of our lives goes un- checked. St. Ambrose reminds us that “no one heals himself by wounding another.” Bringing our brothers and sisters down by being overly critical, serves no positive purpose.

But the one who knows how easy it is to fall into sin and weakness and how quickly errors in judgment can be made, knows the depth of true compassion, mercy, and kindness. Having recognized our own poor choices, misguided opinions, negative emo- tions, and ability to do horrendous things, we can be more sympathetic and understanding of where others may be. We are designed to be mentors and guides to one another. In walking the journey to- gether, we can help each other become the best we can be. Humility is the order of the day and the primary virtue that prevents us from being hypo- crites.

Hermanos y hermanas, el evangelio de este domingo dice cosas como: Un ciego no puede guiar a otro cie- go, el discípulo no es superior al maestro, pero cuando termine su aprendizaje será como su maestro; el árbol bueno se conoce por sus frutos, el hombre bueno dice cosas buenas… como te llegan estas palabras de Je- sús?... Lee el texto completo y deja que Dios hable a tu corazón.

La iglesia te ofrece elementos para crecer en la fe de tal manera que puedas ayudar a tus hermanos; por supuesto que esta guía antes que de discursos y pala- bras, debe ser con el ejemplo, con el testimonio. Si bien es cierto hemos recibido la fe como un don gratui- to, esta puede quedarse infantil o convertirse en una fe madura. Un ciego no puede guiar a otro ciego, signifi- ca precisamente que para orientar, instruir y corregir a los otros es necesario formarse en la doctrina cristiana católica, conociendo la Palabra, meditándola y ponién- dola en practica y la tradición que es tambien otro fun- damento de nuestra fe.

En ocasiones hay un poco de confusión cuando los padres piden a la iglesia el bautismo para sus hijos y deben elegir los padrinos. La orientación adecuada es que deberán buscar personas que tengan sino la mis- ma, mucha mas madurez en la fe que los padres, ya que estos se convierten en padres espirituales que guian al ahijado y que pueden suplir lo que falta a los padres. Desde esta palabra, les invito a tomar con- ciencia de esto y a tenerlo muy en cuenta, tratando de ayudar a otros que estén en esta dificultad. No se eli- ge padrino por amistad, por ser del mismo país, por que me ha ayudado económicamente… No, es nece- sario tomar en serio nuestro compromiso cristiano, la iglesia necesita cristianos maduros en la fe, que pue- dan ser sal de la tierra y luz del mundo.

Animo, revisemos nuestra vida desde este texto, así que vuelve a leerlo.

You are at the ACTUAL SITES listening to a biblical scholar explain the details of that happened. This is a wonderful way to make a Lenten journey.

Our annual Parish Tag Sale will be held in June of this year. The dates are June 4,5,11 & 12th.

Last year we raised over $15,000! This was due largely because of wonderful donation from out- side our parish! Please tell your friends and family about our Tag Sale. 

Starting March 1st, ( 9am3pm), we will be  accepting tag sale donations. Below is the list of items that we will accept:

Furniture, lamps, rugs, linens, luggage, toys, purses, jewelry, tools, candles, framed art work, household serving pieces, small electrical appli- ances, dishes and glassware, sports equipment, baby items and furniture, outside furniture, planters, children’s books, garden tools, adult books (fiction only), vases, wall hangings and pet supplies. March 2 will be Ash Wednesday. We start with that visible sign that we freely decide to be put on our forehead and this publicly manifests that we want to improve our life.

From now on I invite you to think about what things you need to change, that it is not a big list, one or two things, that result in the good of your neighbor.

Every Friday at 6pm we will do the Way of the Cross.

On Saturday, March 26 from 9am to 1pm, partic- ipate in a morning of reflection in preparation for living Holy Week.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL DINNER

“THANK YOU”

On Sunday, February 20, approximately 80 meals were served to the clients at St. Vincent de Paul’s Soup Kitchen. These patrons were very ap- preciative and expressed their gratitude to us and to everyone who helped provide the meals.

 As you know we had prepared meals for 150. The patrons were allowed to take an extra meal if they wanted, and whatever was left would be stored and served another day. The remaining brownies will be going to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry.

 Our special “Thank You” to everyone who helped cook, bake and serve the meals.

El domingo 20 de febrero, se sirvieron aproximadamente 80 comidas a los clientes en st. Vincent de Paul's Soup Kitchen. Estos clientes estaban muy agradecidos y expresa- ron su gratitud a nosotros y a todos los que ayudaron a proporcionar las comidas.

 Como saben, habíamos preparado co- midas para 150. A los clientes se les permitía tomar una comida extra si querían, y lo que quedaba se almacenaba y servía otro día. Los brownies restantes irán a la despensa de ali- mentos Amazing Grace.
