FISIP UB Look Towards Partnership with Deakin University in the Future
PENJAJAKAN KERJASAMA ANTARA FISIP UB DAN DEAKIN UNIVERSITY
Michael Knopp, as the delegation from Deakin University was visited Faculty of Social and Political Sciences on Tuesday 26th September 2017 to discuss about partnership with FISIP UB especially in Communication and International Relations. As the 29th best university in the world under 30 year in 2017 QS world ranking, Deakin is also known for the strong reputation of its International Relations (listed on 50 ranks in the world) as follow the communication and creative arts. Concern with those two majors, FISIP UB sees it as probability for partnership. The discussion of partnership results several ideas which are beneficial for both side. The ideas outline such as honour degree which offered by Deakin
University as a pathway to do a 3 year of study undergraduate, 1 year honour and followed by PhD or 3 years
undergraduate done with 2 years of master followed by PhD; and the Joint Degree program which allow students to get a single degree with jointly batch. Due to the difference of curriculums and credits in both university, Deakin and FISIP UB working to collaborate both ideas to meet the deal. Final project or a thesis, for example, will be referred as a collaborative projects which done by the students, also for the period of completion of master degree must be done in two years long based on the government requirements. Another point lined up in the discussion was about the tuition fee. Study in Deakin University spend 10 times higher education fee than in Indonesia. It result both university to provide some information about possible scholarship for students, not only for the tuition fee but also for the possible living cost. Also for the
requirements from Deakin University such as the minimum score of English proficiency test for International Students and the Letter of Acceptance which will help the future students. Furthermore, the discussion led to another short-term program like two weeks course for academic staff members to do a 60 hours teaching program in Brawijaya Smart School, to join research, or as a guest lecturer in stadium general , also for students to do a global experience accompanied by supervisor. These points above is planned in between November to February to meet the comfortable weather and it will be conducted near the following year. Menginjak usianya ke tiga belas tahun, FISIP memperluas jaringan kerjasama dengan instansi pendidikan tinggi di Australia. Hari ini, Kamis 26 September 2017, FISIP menyambut baik kedatangan tamu besar dari Faculty of Arts and Education, Deakin University, Michael Knopp serta Perwakilan Deakin University di Jakarta, Sebastian Gunawan . Dalam
pertemuannya yang pertama kalinya ini, FISIP Universitas Brawijaya dengan Deakin University melakukan penjajakan
dengan bekerjasama melalui program - program akademis. Niat baik tersebut juga diwujudkan dengan terselenggaranya kuliah tamu bagi mahasiswa FISIP Universitas Brawijaya untuk mengetahui lebih jauh sistem pendidikan dan pembelajaran di Deakin University. Melalui pertemuan tersebut, Michael mengenalkan lebih jauh tentang Deakin University sebagai
salah satu International University yang berlokasi di Melbourne, Australia. Selain itu, Michael Knopp juga menjabarkan
sistem double degree antara Universitas Brawijaya dengan Deakin University, “Semester pertama di tahun ke 3 disebut
sebagai masa percobaan bagi mahasiswa, jika siswa mampu mengikuti perkuliahan dan mampu membayar uang kuliah, mereka dapat melanjutkan masa studinya, tapi jika tidak, mereka dapat kembali ke UB dan menyelesaikan tugas akhir mereka, Namun jika mereka mampu melanjutkan studi itu berarti tahun ke tiga dan empat mereka akan mendapat excellent mark serta kesempatan untuk meraih gelar dan melanjutkan proyek Phd melalui Colombo projects― jelasnya. “Bagi
mahasiswa internasional yang akan menempuh studi di negeri kanguru tersebut, maka diperlukan setidaknya 10 minggu kelas persiapan untuk melatih melatih bahasa inggrisnya. Selain itu IELTS juga menjadi salah satu syarat untuk menempuh studi lanjutan di Deakin Univerity,― Jelas Michael lagi. Antara Deakin dengan Brawijaya juga berencana melakukan pertukaran kurikulum di program Ilmu Komunikasi dan Hubungan Internasional.
