Make clear the distinction between a Process Description, a WPS Application
Profile, a profile of the WPS Specification

Work item code:
Category:

D (Editorial modification)
Reason for
change:
*
Currently the distinction between a WPS Process Description, a WPS Application Profile and a profile of the WPS spec. is not made
sufficiently clear: section 6.4 "WPS Profiles" starts by talking about "standardized profiles" and then moves into "Application Profiles".
Summary of
change:
*
The following distinctions need to be made clear:
1. A WPS Profile is a specialisation of the WPS interface, e.g. making optional operations or parameters mandatory (or removing them altogether).
2. A WPS Application Profile is (in the WPS1.0 form) a standardised ProcessDescription which may be found through a registry using its assigned URN.
3. A ProcessDescription is (again, in the WPS1.0 form) a description of a process and its inputs/outputs. It may also indicate that it implements a particular WPS Application Profile.
It may be a good idea to choose a different term to "Application Profile", e.g. GML has "Application Schema", in order to make misunderstandings less likely.
Consequences if
not approved:
Confusion as to what a "WPS Profile" and a "WPS Application Profile"
Clauses affected:
*
Mainly 6.4 "WPS Profiles", probably also others.
