ISOLATION OF FLAVONOIDA COMPOUND FROM LEAVES OF JAMBU AIR (Syzygium aquea (Burm.f.) Alston)
ABSTRACT
Isolation of flavonoid compounds from leaves of Jambu Air (Syzygium aquea (Burm,f.) Alston) has been done by maceration technique with methanol solvent. Methanol extract obtained was evaporated and dissolved with ethyl acetate. The solution was than concentrated and evaporated. Ethyl acetate fraction was dissolved with methanol and partitioned with n-hexane solvent. Methanol layer was evaporated and then acidified with HCl 6% while heated, It was then extract partition with chloroform. The concentrated chloroform extract, which is total flavonoid was analysed with thin layer chromatography and then separated using Column Chromatography with silica gel as the stationary phase and n-hexane : ethyl acetate (80:20 v/v) as the mobile phase. The compound was purified with TLC preparative yielding yellow crystal with weight 7 mg with Rf= 0,35. The compound was further identified by spectroscopy analysis using UV-Visible, FT-IR and 1-H-NMR. Spectroscopy data was estimated as flavonoida is flavanone.
