Normal Course for R u r a l T e a c h e r s

For the past two years the faculty have been considering the advisability of establishing at the school a Normal Course for training teachers primarily for the rural schools—teachers who would have the rural point of view as well as a knowledge of Rural Economics and social conditions.

In co-operation with certain of the other special State

Schools of Agriculture and with the advice of the Director of

Agricultural Education of the State Department of Education,

a tentative course of study has been prepared. This includes

two years of work and is designed to give a thorough training

in the methods of teaching those subjects taught in the first

eight grades of the public schools, together with thorough

courses in elementary agriculture and home science. This

course will be submitted to the Regents and if approved by

them an effort will be made to start a class at the beginning

of the next school year. It is heartily endorsed by the

District Superintendents of the surrounding Supervisory Dis-

tricts.

APPENDIX E 103 Courses for Disabled Soldiers

The re-training of disabled soldiers for certain types of

•agricultural work is a new field of service for which the school is well adapted. The use of the school for this pur- pose, so far as possible without serious detriment to its regular work, has been offered to the Federal Board for Voca- tional Education, under whose authority this new type of education will be administered.
